Deborah Lippmann – ‘Girls Just Want To Have Fun’ & ‘I Know What Boys Like’ (swatches & review)
For summer 2011, Deborah Lippmann shows us bright, vibrant, colour-saturated hues…the 80′s revisited with a modern & fresh twist. These two shades are ridiculously creamy, yet still manage to have an almost subdued elegance to them and the application was nothing short of perfection. Well known for being the ‘go-to’ manicurist of many celebrities, Deborah has once more delved into that vast creative pool she inhabits and brought us these two beauties! All swatches are with Deborah Lippmann’s Rehydrating Base Coat and three thin coats of lacquer, no top coat (with that natural glossiness….are you kidding?!).
‘Girls Just Want To Have Fun’ is the heat of summer captured in a bottle of nail polish. A super rich and utterly creamy coral, this has just enough pink in it to add an interesting depth of hue and will look absolutely spectacular against each and every skin tone. Rather squishy looking, this straddles the line between a crème and jelly polish, and while not 100% opaque with three thin coats, it’s still so incredible to look at. Perfectly self levelling, the formula was superb. Love, love, LOVE this one!
‘I Know What Boys Like’ is the blue shade of the summer evening sky right before night falls. Described by Deborah as a “periwinkle blue”, it has a dusty and muted quality to it which prevents it from ever seeming too garish. The slight purple leanings in its base give it a beautiful tone and I love how regal the colour looks, no matter the lighting. Decent opacity was reached by the second coat, but I opted for three to be consistent. Just look at that glossy finish!
Final thoughts: While a coral shade seems right in line for a summer colour, I was surprised to learn that Deborah would also be launching a blue shade for the season, but after having seen (and worn) it, I understand how perfectly it fits in with her vision and love how ‘cool’ it looks. ‘Girls Just Want To Have Fun’ is seriously so amazing to look at, that I didn’t want to remove it to wear anything else! Both these lacquers were a dream to apply and I am beyond impressed with the perfectly brush-stroke free finish…both are definite WINS! All Deborah Lippmann products are available at several fine high end department stores as well as her website here.

Loving these!! I didn’t realize that D.Lippmann had fun creams coming out for Summer! I feel these are both must haves. Beautiful!!
I know what you mean…..they will definitely be fabulous summer colours, that’s for sure….and beyond! There’s one more coming up…stay tuned for that one!
Is ‘Girls Just Want To Have Fun’ not the color on the spring: Honeysuckle? It’s seems to me! Just love that coral-pink glossy color. Did you buy them in Canada? If yes, can you tell me where? Thanks, Melanie
Hi Melanie…..yes, the first thing I thought of too was that this Lippmann polish looked very close to this year’s “it” colour, honeysuckle; I’ll have to pull out the Essie polish I used for that post to compare and will let you know! I received these Lippmann polishes for review, but in the past I have bought all my Deborah Lippmann’s at Holt Renfrew here in Montreal, Quebec. There’s another store called Abe & Mary’s (on Jean Talon street here in Montreal) that I’ve had some success in finding Lippmanns, but they don’t always have all the latest colours, especially when I’ve wanted them! Hope this helps!
Oh, these are GORGEOUS! Gah, going to break my 3 nail polish per month rule and grab these babies ASAP.
LOL! Aren’t they just super fabulous for summer….or any other season too, for that matter! I admire you; 3 nail polishes per month, huh?! Wish I had that kind of willpower!!!
I ended up falling for the Dior Rock collection instead but I’ve still got my eye on these. Major self-control fail!
lol…..as if any true nail polish addict ever shows self-control, am I right?!! I picked up Dior’s Rock Collection as well & am preparing my review; I would love to know what you think of it (apart from the formula being amazing, that is!)
Omg I’m gonna purchase these as soon as it’s up on eBay!
Love your swatches and your review, thanks a million!
You’re so welcome…..thank you for such kind words! The polishes are already available on Deborah’s website, if that helps…..might be another alternative to eBay! xox
haha eBay has a cheaper shipping fee
anyway I saw one of DL’s polishes Lara’s Theme in the Nordstrom site and I’m surprised that polish is not talked about! Its under their spring/summer collection so will you do a review on that? its a pretty orangeeee
I didn’t realize that ebay had a better shipping fee…go for it, I say! lol! I’m hoping to have my review of Lara’s Theme up soon; it’s Deborah’s latest collaboration and colour release for summer and it looks spectacular! Can’t wait to wear it as a summer pedi….warmer weather can’t start soon enough for me! xox
