CHANEL Summer 2012: Glossimer #337 Calypso (swatches & review)
*Don’t forget to check out my Mother’s Day Giveaway here!*
Continuing with the reveal of my Wedding Anniversary Bounty (begun here), I realized that I also needed to include something for the lips, and as I have a soft spot for CHANEL Glossimers, this stunning shade was definitely calling my name! ‘Calypso’, might mean “to hide from/hidden” in Greek, but I much prefer revealing every brilliant aspect of this tropical beauty!
#337 Calypso is an absolutely gorgeous orange/coral hued gloss, filled with the tiniest glistening shimmer in shades of gold, orange and pink – with perhaps even a speck or two of blue deep within. Considering that this is a gloss, I found the pigment to be rather well saturated throughout, as it leaves a nice veil of colour when applied. With a formula that’s neither thick, overly slippery or too tacky, I believe that this hue will work well with all skin tones, and it won’t settle into any lines like many glosses have a tendency of doing. I generally get at least 2 hours of solid wear with CHANEL Glossimers, and ‘Calypso’ seemed to last a little longer than that; when it finally faded, it left the faintest touch of a delicate sparkle behind, while my lips continued to feel quite nourished and moisturized.
NOTE: I’ve learned over the years, that when using a new CHANEL Glossimer for the first time, you may find that only a small amount of product is released at the onset; the more you continue to use your gloss, the more saturated the spongy tip will become, and deposit more than enough product for a perfect application.
I still get a little thrill looking at those interlocked “C’s”!

Final thoughts: I usually prefer lip glosses over lipstick primarily for their ease of use; one swipe and you’re done, no mirror needed (for the most part – highly pigmented glosses being the exception). CHANEL Glossimers also have the unique advantage of being rather long-lasting, for a gloss, and while applying the term “non-sticky” to a gloss may sound like an oxymoron, I love how ‘Calypso’ stays on the lips until it eventually fades, and doesn’t develop that filmy line along the inner lip that so many other glosses can. Even when it faded away, I was left with the faintest glimmer behind and my lips felt quite moisturized – another plus. The perfect hue for when you want your lips to be the focus, this ‘Calypso’ should definitely never remain hidden!

So gorgeous! It’s lovely on you, Eugenia, and perfect for spring. I wanted one, but they’re not paraben-free, unfortunately, so I’m on the lookout for my coral gloss fix this summer
I think I found a Revlon one, will have to post soon!
Thanks, Larie! I tend to shy from overly bright hues due to my colouring, but this was absolutely wearable! Too bad about the paraben thing, but glad you found something similar that you can wear! looking forward to your post!
Hi,
I love your blog and you’re spot on all the trends.
Just curious if you would know what specific color (Crimson ?) and brand Kate Middleton wore recently with Jimmy Choo sandals at Claridges gala this week !
From someone’s sister you bumped into today !
Thanks !
Lol…I thought I recognized the last name! First of all, thank you so much for the kind words and more importantly, welcome! I have been scouring the net for more info, as well as pestering all my contacts to find out ever since I saw the first photo, but so far, everyone’s keeping their cards close to their chest; the instant I find out, I will certainly update!
In the meantime, it looks to me to be a deep red-wine hue with berry hints; I’ll have to go shopping in my collection to see if I can come up with some names for you!
We should definitely meet! Make sure your sister invites you along – we’ve got a tentative date planned!
I didn’t want this when I first saw the promo pics Big Sis, but dang! it’s gorgeous!! Is it out at HR yet? I think I want to go look at Armani too!
Lil Sis, I don’t understand why The Bay launched this collection first; up until last weekend, Holt’s still hadn’t received their stock, but I’m hoping that by this weekend that will have changed!
As to Armani, there are at least 5 pieces from this collection that I have my eye on, but here’s my dilemma: we pay WAY more here, so I was thinking of just ordering them from the states….and don’t even get me started on Québec sales tax (hello, 15%? WHAT?????)
I considered picking this up today (after reading this post right before work LOL!), but when I swatched it and compared it to my MAC Dazzleglass Cremesheen in Luscious Spark (I think from a 2009 collex), it was too similar for me to justify. But it is SUCH a lovely shade, and well worth owning – and looks LOVELY on you!!! If I just had more $$ it would have came home with me for sure
Thank you, Toya…you always make me feel so pretty! Lol! No point in spending the $$$, since the MAC is so close — more left over for some other new things! What did you wind up with? I’m so curious!
It’s beautiful, I love that it’s sheer but has a nice touch of color… I must confess that when it comes to lip products, I’m so cheap lol!! Maybe I spend a lot in foundation or other product, but I don’t know, It hurts spending so much in a gloss.
I still have some good ones, but the only chanel has glitter and it’s a little gritty, not a good experience…
You tempt me with this one, but for this time, I think my cheap side it’s going to win, more to spend in nail polish! Hahaha
I can totally relate; spending over $30.00 on a lip gloss definitely hurts, but my experience with Chanel glosses has always been super positive, while I can’t say the same about many other brands (both high AND low end). I’ve never had an issue with “grit” either; maybe you had one with larger glitter or a bad batch, perhaps?
Thanks for the kind words just the same, Mara! Saving on this to spend it on nail polish instead, works for me too!
What a fun color! I love it on you. SO summery!
Thanks, Maribeth! I find Chanel glosses some of the best on the market, and while I cringe at the prices, in the end I never regret my purchase, as I tend to use them up til the last drop — can’t say the same for any other brand I’ve tried!
This looks spectacular in the tube! I sooo want one but it’s kind of sheer, too, no? I know the Chanel shimmer can’t be beat though. Some day! Enjoy your goodies!
Thanks Liz! And yes, while it’s definitely not opaque, it still holds quite a bit of colour – enough to show up, at any rate, without looking tacky or too trendy. With my colouring, I can’t really get away with shades that are too vibrant, so this is the perfect compromise for me!
