NARS Pirée Larger than Life Lip Gloss Spring 2013
It seems like candy-coloured shades are what’s in this year, and the NARS Spring 2013 Collection pays homage to that trend in the brand’s own unique way. Pirée Larger than Life Lip Gloss, is a delicate beauty, although you wouldn’t know it from the colour seen in the tube.
A warm leaning peony pink hue, this applies quite sheer but you can build it up to a semi-opaque state. Relatively unscented, I find the tiny little brush at the end of the long wand a little out of place, although I do like the precision it affords. That being said, if this were a more vibrant hue, I would definitely prefer this brush but seeing as how it’s a neutral sheer, a doe-foot applicator might have been more useful – saves on how many times you need to swipe the product across the lips.
There is no shimmer or sparkle to this hue, although the intense mirror like gloss it leaves more than makes up for that. The swatch photos below depict some settling of the product into my lip lines – definitely not something noticeable in person. Staying power is the norm for a shade this light – about 2 hours total, leaving your lips feeling moist & thoroughly hydrated when its gone. NARS states that there’s a “plumping effect” to this range of glosses; I do detect the faintest tingle and while my lips don’t appear inflated, there seems to be a slightly fuller look to them. The only other gloss of this type I own, is ‘Gold Digger’ (reviewed here), and I found it to be one of my favourite glosses to wear solo; I’m not sure ‘Pirée’ packs much of an impact on its own, but it’s great for a natural look with a little zing and can always be layered over another lip product (pencil, lipstick) for more depth of tone.

Final thoughts: A beautiful shade and formula for anyone wanting a natural yet glossy pout – with amazing moisturizing thrown in for good measure. Is it a must have? I’d say no, but the proof will be in how often I turn to this as the weather warms up. You can certainly find a much more price-friendly version, but I’ve found that the NARS gloss formula is pretty hard to beat. I’m glad that Pirée is not one of the limited edition pieces of the Spring 2013 Collection, because something tells me that I’ll wind up making this a staple as well. And there … I’ve just contradicted my earlier statement, like a true beauty fiend!
NARS Pirée Larger than Life Lip Gloss retails for CAD $32.00 and I picked mine up from The Bay.

That is a really lovely shade on you – warm but natural.
That little brush is a little bizarre, though. It would make more sense on a stain-type product, where precision is vital.
That was my thinking exactly, Maggie; what’s with the mini brush? Guess if you fall for the colour badly enough, you can overlook that little detail!
Pink! But a pretty pink Big Sis! Looks awesome on you!
Thanks Lil Sis! I think because it’s a warmer pink, it doesn’t make me look like Trailer Trash Barbie, lol!
Pretty shade, Eugenia! I feel like it’s definitely dupeable, but often those shades are repeated across brands for a reason! I don’t own any of the newer Larger than Life glosses – I’m really not a fan of that itty bitty brush – but I may give them a go, someday!
Here’s the thing; I complained about the dinky little brush when I purchased Gold Digger, but then I sort of got used to it; still, slightly bigger would have cut down on the amount of times you need to dip into the tube itself!
