CHANEL – Les 4 Ombres #41 Fascination
This past weekend I went to my local CHANEL counter intending to purchase the #39 Raffinement eyeshadow quad just released with the Spring 2013 collection. I was then shown several new products that were just released (but which I hadn’t even heard of yet), and all earlier thoughts flew out of my head the moment I laid eyes on the #41 Fascination quad. The intense yet sophisticated beauty of this palette just called to me, and I could not resist picking this up, along with another little gem that I’ll be posting soon.
#41 Fascination – (CAD $62.00) Three blue shades along with a complimentary highlight in the European CHANEL round-pan baked formula. Every single one of these hues can be worn dry for a softer, more diffused look, or applied wet for more impact and which also brings out every facet. I experienced almost no powdery residue when I dipped my brush into each shade, and even the darkest tone left no fallout upon application.
Every single hue has a complex layering of colour and multi-coloured ultra-fine shimmer, the latter being fully revealed when applied wet:
- top left shade – a dusty cornflower blue
- top right shade – a greyed white
- bottom left shade – a mid-tone grey with blueish undertones
- bottom right shade – a blackened teal

Final thoughts: What I absolutely adore about this palette, is that these are all totally wearable blue shades, without any horrifying 80′s throwback imagery. I’ve been playing around with this quad for a few days now, and my favourite look right now is using these hues for a chic new take on the smokey eye, with a hint of drama thrown in by applying the top left shade wet as eyeliner. At the moment, I’m not even sure where this little capsule collection fits in on the CHANEL timeline, but I don’t care – just happy that I stumbled upon it!
I purchased #41 Fascination from The Bay – testers were available, although no display was up.

Gorgeousness! You and Tracy are killing me! I’ve yet to try CHANEL shadows actually. I might try one of their duos to start eventually.
If you want an amazing duo from CHANEL, then you should definitely check out Sable-Emouvant that the re-released with the Spring 2013 collection – I’ve reviewed it on my blog as well, but I it also happens to be an item I turn to often.
those are stunning! i don’t have too many chanel products but i might have to check these out. they look great wet!
Be aware that with CHANEL products (as with many other brands as well), the only shadows you can use wet, are the ones that come in a baked formula – otherwise you run the risk of completely ruining them. Thankfully, this quad works that way & I agree – even more impressive when applied wet!
Oooh. Love it. I didn’t stop to peruse the counter when I was in today swapping my eyeshadow. Is this what you’re wearing in your instagram pic? It looks great on your pale skin. I love blues but my dark eyes don’t carry it off the same way. I might test it out in store!
If you get a chance to check it out, it’s definitely worth looking over. And yes…I’m definitely wearing the shades from this quad in my pic!
So, the Chanel quad I bought last month, Vanites – turned me off their quads for good, unfortunately. DID. NOT. LIKE. I`m pleased that you and Tracy are totally getting your moneys worth, but for me, I`m fairly certain I`m going to skip these from now on. Didn`t like the texture nor the shadows themselves – even wet they were a big FAIL for me. I`m totally OK with this though, I can cross them off my wishlist now (yay for saving money!).
Oh Toya….I’m so sorry to hear that; what happened? I don’t own the quad you mentioned, but I’m curious as to why it didn’t work out for you. Also, you should have tried bringing it back – CHANEL is actually pretty good with accepting products that fail to pass muster (as most of the high end brands do). Oh well…who knows down the line if you won’t end up falling for another one of their quads?! In the meantime, you can used the money towards fulfilling other lemmings!
I actually DID return it! Aside from the disappointing quality, it contained lanolin which I’m allergic to, so – an all-around fail. And yes, you never know – I did swatch the recent quad from the spring collection and it felt much nicer (just didn’t need the neutral shades). I never say never!
Good to hear that you didn’t hold on to it – nothing worse than paying top dollar for a product and it turns out to be a dud PLUS having it hang around as a constant reminder, lol! Glad this experience didn’t turn you off this brand!
Gorgeous! That’s just the sort of colours I’m looking for right now, too! I’d like to find that in another brand as no Chanel in stores, here. Someone will dupe it I guess! Wish you’d showed us your smokey eye look with the shades, maybe another time. : )
Actually, I posted a quick look on both my Instagram and Twitter feeds – you can check it out…if you dare, lol! Glad you liked the quad, Linda!
A lovely palette !
I agree! And done as only CHANEL can – perfectly!
Haha it’s scary how much we think alike Big Sis haha! Scary, but I LIKE THAT.
I’m glad I got this quad too! The shadows are a sophisticated blue and I love that! We don’t look like we’re going to a Tears For Fears Concert LOL.
LOL!!! I was listening to ‘Shout’ from tears for Fears yesterday while flipping through channels on Sirius and it brought me right back! I agree with you 100% about this quad – gorgeous!
This looks really pretty. Can`t say I`ll buy this palette BUT..it just reminds me that I`m definitely a Chanel fan.
How can anyone NOT be a CHANEL fan? LOL! Glad you liked it though!
Ahhh, I saw Tracy picked this up, too. You guys really are on the same wavelength, LOL. I’m sure it looks equally stunning on you!
Thanks, Larie! I just noticed that too, lol! Great minds think alike, I guess!
