CHANEL Les Beiges Healthy Glow Multi-Colour SPF 15 N° 01 & N° 02 (Limited Edition)

CHANEL Les Beiges Healthy Glow opener

Following the huge & instant success of the Les Beiges range of face powders released last year (see my review here), CHANEL has launched 2 new – and limited edition – versions for 2014: Les Beiges Healthy Glow Multi-Colour SPF 15 N° 01 & N° 02. Combining a highlighter, face powder, and blush in one compact, the key word here is ‘subtle’, as these are meant to impart a healthy and natural looking glow to the face.

And if that doesn’t get you, then there’s that signature beige lacquered casing …

CHANEL No 01 Healthy Glow

Les Beiges Healthy Glow Multi-Colour SPF 15 N° 01 (CAN $64.00) – In the same square lacquered casing and beige colour as the earlier Les beiges compacts, each with its own demi-lune brush housed inside, N° 01 is the lighter of the two compacts and offers 3 stripes of colour: an oyster highlighter, a light tan face powder, and a peachy pink blush. Each segment is wide enough that it can be applied individually by using a narrower-headed brush, if desired (might be a bit tricky, but it can still be done). Combined, the 3 tones produce a more diffused and lightly tinted effect; by concentrating more on the lower portions of the compact, you can dial up the intensity – but only slightly, in particular with this trio. There is very little powdery kickback upon swirling my brush along the surface of the palette and even through multiple uses, I love how the 3 shades don’t get muddied up all together. The powder itself has that patented ultra-fine CHANEL shimmer seen on the surface, but translates into a more matte-luminous finish on the skin, not the glowy type, but more of a natural radiance.

My favourite method of applying N° 01, is by using a powder brush (such as the CHANEL #1 Powder Brush) for an all-over dusting using all three shades, then going in with a smaller headed brush and concentrating more on the blush portion, which I then add to the apples of the cheeks. This gives a natural looking flush to the skin, albeit not as evident on my lightly tanned skin now, but still enough to add a spot of colour. Another option for N° 01, is to use it as a setting powder that also happens to have a slight tint to it – this will impart a nice warmth and overall even tone to the skin, while setting your foundation at the same time.

N° 01 is definitely better suited for fair to light complexions, as the tanned portion will not overpower natural skin tones, but rather give a very gentle and believable tint. Darker complexions (light to medium) will probably find that while this trio doesn’t show up as overtly on the skin, it can still enhance the complexion by giving it a radiant (but very subtle) flush of colour, although those with the darkest complexions will not find much use for these 3 shades at all – be warned.

CHANEL No 02 Healthy Glow

Les Beiges Healthy Glow Multi-Colour SPF 15 N° 02 (CAN $64.00) – The darker and more ‘bronzer-looking’ of the two shades offered, N° 02 is sublime (at least, on my skin tone). The 3 hues – a champagne highlighter, a warm tan middle portion, and a salmon tinged blusher, should suit all complexions, except for the very fairest, where it may fall too dark. As with N° 01, the three segments can be used individually, although I found the effect of this compact to be much more wearable when all the tones are swirled together. Leaning on the lighter end of the spectrum as far as bronzers go, you can certainly intensify the depth with multiple passes of your brush, but just remember that it is meant to provide that carefree and oh-so-very French ‘bonne mine‘ (which directly translates to ‘good looks’) effect, and not perform as a true bronzer.

TIP: While I don’t often use the brushes that can come with such compacts, I do make an exception for the demi-lune (and natural bristle) brush included here, as I find it gives a good light and even wash when swept across the face – no need to carry any extra tools with you.

After applying a light dusting but concentrating more on the planes of the face, ie: cheekbones, bridge of the nose, temples – by using a large headed brush (such as the CHANEL #1 Powder Brush), I like going in with a denser-headed brush (such as the CHANEL Les Beiges Retractable Kabuki Brush) and buffing N° 02 into the skin – this gives a soft-focus look and overall seamless finish. Once again, the shimmer on these finely-milled powders is there more to provide depth and luminosity (think: sunlight hitting your face), not any overt glow (as a highlighter can).

Being a CHANEL fiend has its drawbacks: resistance is futile. Happily, my addiction indulgence in this brand has yet to leave me disappointed and if there’s one thing CHANEL knows with absolute certainty how to do, it’s to create face powders of incredibly superb quality. Of the two compacts, I would have to say that N° 02 is my favourite and the one I turn to more often, primarily because I have a touch more colour to my face now – although I do like the look of N° 01 when added on top as a blush – the two work incredibly well together, but a similar effect can also be achieved using a separate blush. It basically comes down to 2 things: availability (these are limited edition and will soon be gone from shelves) and personal skin tone/preference. I hedged my bets by getting both.

I purchased mine through The Bay (Canada)

  1. Latoya says:

I love the idea of these so much! But I don’t think they’ll do the intended on my skin tone, sadly. I may check out the darker shades of Les Beiges at some point though :)

    • Eugenia says:

I can’t see N° 01 doing much for you either but N° 02 may be worth a look – if not, definitely check out the darker shades of the regular line (I have #20 & #30, but #40 is now on my radar)

  2. The No. 01 is so so light, even too light for me. Although, I bet ghostly Marky could use it! I keep thinking about No.02, but I think I’m just going to get No.40 for when my skin gets a bit darker over the summer since I adore No.30! Did you you get the liquid ones? I think I want one of those for sure!

    • Eugenia says:

I actually did get the liquid one (been meaning to post it, but well…you know what my life’s been like lately) and absolutely love it! As to 01 being too light for you, bear in mind that my swatch is showing it on my skin that’s taken on some colour from walking the dog – before that, it definitely showed up a lot more on me. Still, worth checking out in person next time you’re at a counter!
