MAC – Submerged Nail Lacquer (LE), Alluring Aquatic Collection Summer 2014

MAC Submerged with box & title

There is just that extra special something about the MAC Summer collections, that I happen to personally look forward to all year; it could be partly due to the fact that I am myself a Summer baby, but it’s more like the brand puts their most creative thinking into this one particular seasonal launch. This year’s version, Alluring Aquatic Summer 2014, is no exception to that and if anything, I can truthfully say that MAC exceeded even my high expectations. Starting from the theme – water – the product exteriors (raised water droplets on turquoise packaging. TURQUOISE), to the colours themselves, I was powerless to resist picking up several items … powerless, I tell you.

Sadly, this collection is pretty much sold out online, but you can still find several items at certain stores … if you’re willing to do a little hunting.

MAC Submerged

Submerged Nail Lacquer (CAN $21.00) – Of the 3 nail lacquers released with this collection, the only one that spoke to me was Submerged, an aqua/teal multi chrome polish with colour shifts of royal blue, violet, and lavender. The consistency is incredibly easy flowing and leaves no visible brush strokes, falling in a self-levelling way and leaving behind a brilliant finish. Interestingly enough, the first coat appeared somewhat thin but becomes completely opaque by the second coat, sort of optical illusion-like. In shaded/darker light, the primary shade is teal – which is gorgeous in its own right, but it’s in sunlight that you can clearly see the rainbow flashes. BONUS: non-staining upon removal. Coats applied: 2, plus top coat

Can we also take a minute to admire the raised water droplets on the aqua metallic cap? Have you EVER seen anything so fabulous?!

Ordinarily, I’d have a hard time shelling out CAN $21.00 for a MAC polish, but I did so without a trace of hesitation for Submerged – and with zero regrets, at that. In all likelihood, I already own several lacquers that undoubtedly come close to this shade (I haven’t gone comparison hunting yet, but I intend to), which also means that if you missed out on this lovely, you may still be able to duplicate it with other brands. Still, if you happen to cross paths with any pieces from this collection, you’d be well advised to jump all over them. Just saying.

Product was purchased by me.

Nice color, but i LOVE the bottle ;)

  2. Latoya says:

I thought all the polishes released with this collection were pretty, but none really DID it for me enough to purchase. This looks beautiful on you, Eugenia!

    • Eugenia says:

I actually liked all three, and even though I probably already own a few that come close to this one, I am powerless to resist these types of shades!

  3. D... says:

This color is sublime, nut I don’t think I would wear it. It doesn’t make me feel happy. That sounds odd does it not? It’s deep and mysterious, it’s sultry, it makes me think of those beautiful women in those noir films, with the perfect wave and sexy dresses. It has a bit of vamp quality to it. You want her, but she may not be the right thing for you, but she calls to you just the same. That sort of character.

    • Eugenia says:

      I understand…it’s not a lighthearted colour, that’s for sure but I believe it’s a wonderful representation of the sea’s many-sided nature!

  4. Sandrine says:

What else did you get from the collection?

  5. I thought this was really close to Sally Hansen Blue Black (or whatever it’s called), so I picked up Shimmerfish instead which is FABULOUS. Beautiful photos!

    • Eugenia says:

I probably own like 2 Sally Hansen polishes and don’t really keep up with what that brand releases, so I have no idea about the shade you mentioned. As to Shimmerfish, I agree that it’s gorgeous, but looking at it (and doing a quick counter swatch), it seemed basically identical to an earlier OPI shade (one from the original Muppet 2011 Holiday Collection, ‘Designer de Better’) so I passed on it. I still saw bottles of that available, so I may give it a second look!
