Bare Minerals · Bounce & Blur Collection

Bare Minerals recently launched the Bounce & Blur Collection, fronted by the brand’s spokesperson Hailey Bieber. Cute alliteration in the name aside, this is a collection of eyeshadows and blushes in an innovative squishy (and yes, that word is perfectly fitting) formula that require nothing more than fingers for application, Doesn’t get easier than that, I tell you.

Gotta love makeup with a Canadian connection (ie: Hailey married to the Biebs)

The collection includes 2 palettes, Dawn and Dusk with each bearing 5 shades in a mix of finishes, housed in black ‘rubberized’ slim-profile compacts. The unique cream formula definitely feels bouncy to the touch and once applied it comes to a powdery finish. Highlights include:

  • Blurring Mineral Complex – creates a soft-focus, diffused finish while helping to blur the look of fine lines around the delicate eye area
  • Botanical Blend – a blend of hydrating, naturally-derived, botanical ingredients to help smooth skin’s appearance while providing a bouncy, blendable texture
  • Colour Smart Pearls – reflect and refract light for luminous, never-flat color that’s wearable on all skin tones—each shade has different amounts of pearl for finishes ranging from satin to shimmer/metallic

Also worth noting is that the formula is free of sulfates SLS and SLES, parabens, formaldehydes, formaldehyde-releasing agents, phthalates, mineral oil, retinyl palmitate, oxybenzone, coal tar, hydroquinone, triclosan, and triclocarban, and contains less than one percent of synthetic fragrances. This product is also cruelty-free and gluten-free. Not bad, wouldn’t you agree? Regarding application, you can certainly go in with brushes but fingers really do a fine job; the warmth of your skin also aids in creating the most seamless looking finish. Another perk is that you can wear these as a diffused wash of colour (think: a watercolour effect), but you can always layer them up for more intensity. Staying power over primer is excellent as well, staying crease free and fade-proof until removed.

Dawn Eyeshadow Palette (CAN $38.00) | The more cooler leaning of the 2 palettes, the colours include 1 shimmery hue and 4 in a satin finish, although the latter still display a nice complexity to them. All are spot-on perfect for creating an easy daytime look that will be flattering on a broad variety of skin tones.

  • Aurora Light – holographic white, shimmer
  • Pink Cloud – blush pink, satin
  • Misty Morning – soft rose, satin
  • Hazy Taupe – cool taupe, satin
  • Stormy Sky – deep charcoal, satin

Dusk Eyeshadow Palette (CAN $38.00) | The tone of this palette can swing both cool and warm and while obviously stronger pigmented than Dawn, the shades can all be applied with a lighter hand for a sheer wash of colour. Perfect for evening looks as well as for anyone looking for a bit more drama.

  • Evening Star – creamy beige, satin
  • Harvest Moon – burnt amber, metallic
  • Crimson Sunset – deep crimson, satin
  • Sepia Sky – darkened sepia, satin
  • Purple Twilight – rich plum, satin

Bounce & Blur Blush (CAN $38.00) | The formula on all four blushes is exactly the same as that of the eyeshadow palettes, with the exception of the finish which comes across as more of a satin glow upon the skin (no shimmer or metallic particles). As before, you can definitely apply these with a brush but trust me; you’ll want to use your fingers, as that method provides the most seriously seamless and natural-looking finish you’ve ever seen. For the record, you can also apply these as eyeshadows … and I’m thinking maybe even along the lips, although I’ve yet to try them in that capacity.

Bare Minerals is a brand that I haven’t fully explored but this Bounce & Blur Collection has intrigued me enough to want to learn more. You guys know that I’m all about the luxury beauty life but I’m always open to trying out other ranges — especially when the unexpected bonus is you come across products that deliver the way this group does. The icing on the cake, however, is the wallet-friendly pricing so to paraphrase what I said at the top, it doesn’t get better than that.
