Burberry · Blush Make-Up Collection

The latest addition to the My Burberry fragrance family is the new Blush version and as the perfect accompaniment, the brand has also released a capsule Blush Make-Up Collection. Shades of pink are one of the most flattering and uplifting colours you can wear along the face, providing a brightness that you just can’t get with other tints and while utterly girly, there’s enough earthy mauve touches here to keep things from spinning into frothy territory. Thank God.

Note that there are several other pieces in the collection that I’ve previously reviewed and thus didn’t bother doubling up in this post (except for Full Kisses in Nude Blush that I have & wear often, but for some reason have neglected to review. Sigh) which you can explore in detail by clicking on the following links:

My Burberry Blush Palette, limited edition (CAN $72.00) | Starting from the lovely floral design of the exterior packaging, to the exquisite rendering on the palette’s surface, no detail has been overlooked in the creation of this palette. Housed in a hefty metallic compact case that’s etched with the iconic Burberry plaid, it also comes with a protective velour sleeve and a mini angled brush. The metallic overspray seen along some of its sections does disappear with the first swipe, leaving behind a lovely and universally flattering rose-mauve hue. The texture of the powder is incredibly fine milled and melds beautifully with your skin’s natural warmth without ever sitting at just surface level, and blends effortlessly along the skin for a very natural-looking rosy glow.

Pink Heather N°106 Eye Colour Cream (CAN $35.00) | I’ve been delving more & more into cream eyeshadows lately, as I find they not only perform as an excellent anchor for powder shadows on top, but look lovely on their own as well — and don’t require any complicated tools for application either (as in, all you need is a fingertip. Easy-Peasy). This shade is part of the permanent lineup and has quickly become one I reach for to create a simple, yet effective daytime look, while its mauve rose hue serves to really brighten the eye area. The texture is creamy and blends out smoothly, but I do advise working one eye at a time to prevent it from drying and setting too quickly. Staying power (over primer) is great, without showing signs of creasing, smudging or fading until removed. BONUS: works with all eye colours, but really makes green eyes (like mine) pop.

My Burberry Blush Eau de Parfum (CAN $130.00/90 ml) | Inspire by a “London garden in the first light of day as flowers blossom with a spirited burst of energy”, this latest My Burberry version is decidedly feminine but with a fresh & sparkling twist. The iconic bottle has been tweaked as well and now sports a more dainty pink hue, with the imitation horn cap (evoking the buttons of the brand’s classic trench) given a soft hint of rose, while the hand-tied gabardine bow (honouring the weatherproof fabric invented by Thomas Burberry over 100 years ago) carries the blush theme through as well. Key notes include:

  • Top notes: glazed pomegranate, lemon
  • Heart notes: geranium, crisp apple, rose petal
  • Base notes: jasmine & wisteria accord

As someone who is quite scent-sensitive, I’m always careful in approaching new fragrances since certain combinations can set off an instant migraine, yet I could not resist immediately spritzing My Burberry Blush along my wrists the second I received the bottle. The result was amazing (and thankfully no backlash followed) and while I can’t say I was transported to that afore-mentioned London garden, I found myself sniffing my wrists throughout the wearing and marvelling at how the scent unfolded along my skin. The initial burst is definitely citrus-like, but that quickly becomes softened by the rose petal heart, to finally dry down to a softly pleasing (and not cloying) floral — however, the type that reminds me more of a forest, and not a garden. All in all, I’d have to say that this is just perfect to wear during the day or when you want something uplifting that never leans into overpowering.

When I think of Burberry, “classic” comes immediately to mind and while that word is often associated with all things staid & stuffy, the brand has managed to find a way to fuse its traditional aesthetic with a fresh & urban vibe. Creating products of stellar quality doesn’t hurt the cause either and I’ve already made quite a dent in both the Blush Palette and Pink Heather. Fragrances are a highly personal choice and if you’ve never explored any from the My Burberry range and are leery of heavy scents, do yourself a favour and give Blush a sniff next time you’re at a Burberry counter. And just to sweeten the deal even further, the brand even offers monogramming services for the bottles at select counters — a great gift idea for those who want to get a jump start on the holidays (hint, hint).
