L’Oréal | Collection Exclusive La Vie en Rose by Colour Riche
When one of the latest press releases from L’Oréal arrived, I didn’t know whether to be more excited for the products or the gorgeous packaging details (turns out it was both). Introducing the Collection Exclusive La Vie En Rose by Colour Riche from L’Oréal, a grouping that includes 6 lipstick hues (Eva’s Pink not shown) and 6 matching nail polish shades (coming in a future post), all inspired by as well as created with some of the gorgeous – as well as highly eloquent – spokeswomen for the brand.
Housed in black cases that have a rubberized feel to them, interspersed with gold detailing and each namesake’s signature printed along the front, the range itself may be small but the colour pink is well represented from pale to darkest, warm & cool. All have a vanilla/candy-like scent that’s quite pleasant but which doesn’t linger too long, with a creamy texture upon application. The only shade of the group that didn’t quite work out for me when applied straight from the bullet, was Julianne’s Pink, but one way around that is by layering it over a matching liner first to provide more substance and opacity.

Julianne, limited edition (CAN $11.00) | Baby pink with a light shimmer, the sheerest of the bunch as well as being the patchiest in application, with the most settling seen into my lip lines (of which I have tons, apparently). Definitely more suited for fairer complexions than mine, although I can see this colour working as an edgy shade against really dark skin tones.

Jennifer, limited edition (CAN $11.00) | Surprisingly, this lush raspberry hue turned out to be my absolute favourite of them all (and definitely applies brighter than what’s seen on the bullet). Excellent coverage even with the very first swipe, it also leaves a light stain behind for that “bitten lips” effect.

Doutzen, limited edition (CAN $11.00) | Super hot/neon pink (even brighter in person than the swatch shows), with just a hint of an uneven texture at first, but which quickly smooths over and fills in with a second pass. Probably the most fun shade of the bunch and one that will look quite striking against a light tan, I suspect.

Liya, limited edition (CAN $11.00) | My second fave of the group, this is a lush rose shade with excellent opacity, even coverage & great staying power as well – not to mention being an extremely wearable deep pink that won’t come across as juvenile.

Blake, limited edition (CAN $11.00) | A coral based pink, application is in fact much better than what may appear in the swatch photo and probably the easiest pink to wear if you have a warm toned complexion (like I do). The watermelon-leaning hue seen in the tube lends a unique twist to this soft pink … another love!

Judging by how quickly the original Nudes followed by the Reds sold out when they launched, I’m fairly certain this La Vie En Rose collection will be equally as popular. Mass market brands have come a long way with respect to quality, and the juggernaut that is L’Oréal definitely has extensive resources at its commend to put in some major R&D into its products. That being said, I’m actually quite impressed overall with these lipsticks, barring the lightest shade that came up short against the performance of the rest, but then again, it’s not a colour I’d normally reach for so…∗shrugs∗. And who would have thought that my neutral-loving self would fall so hard for a bright shade like J-Lo’s Pink? Gotta love a beauty surprise that works out so well.

Steven Klein X NARS | One Shocking Moment Cheek Palette (Sephora Exclusive)
The collaboration between NARS and controversial photographer Steven Klein has resulted in a collection of many outstanding pieces, with several limited edition palettes thrown in for good measure. The One Shocking Moment Cheek Palette (CAN $92.00/a value of over $191.00 in total – exclusive to Sephora) might bear a provocative name, but is surprisingly … wearable. Consisting of 7 face products – a contour/highlight duo, bronzer, and 4 blush shades (2 of which are brand new) in one portable compact, there are endless combinations to work with and which will suit a broad range of skin tones.
Then there’s the limited edition packaging with the Steven Klein reproduction on the cover; it’s like carrying around wearable art, I tell you.
Deborah Lippmann ‘The Millionaire’s Holiday’ Giftset (Holt Renfrew exclusive)
Tis the season … for holiday gift sets, and no one does it better than Deborah Lippmann. This weekend, while browsing through the selection on display at the Holt Renfrew Montréal store (or as I like to call it, home!) I came across several groupings that literally stopped me in my tracks. After much debate, I finally decided on ‘The Millionaire’s Holiday’ giftset – as much for the name, as for the shades themselves: 3 festively appropriate hues, but amped up Deborah Lippmann style.

The Millionaire’s Holiday (CAD $45.00 set) is one of several holiday releases from Deborah Lippmann, although this particular set is a Holt Renfrew exclusive (Canada) and from my understanding, also exclusive to Barney’s New York (US). What I find so interesting, is how Deborah Lippmann managed to reinterpret the 3 colours most associated with the holidays, and offers them up in such sophisticated richly glowing hues.
All swatches are with base and top coats
Sexy Mama – a warm leaning, deeply shimmering candy apple red shade with some understated titian undertones, in a slightly thick formula which nonetheless applies easily and in a totally self-levelling way. The intense saturation of pigment almost makes this a 1-coater, although a second coats goes a long way in enhancing the deep ruby glow of this beauty. As there is the potential for some light staining, do not skip base coat here. Coats applied: 2

Easy Money – a complex greyed pine base shade, filled with an ultra-fine mix of blue, gold, bronze and copper shimmer. Although the formula in this lacquer is semi-sheer, it applies exceptionally well, laying down in a self-levelling way and leaving behind a beautiful shine at the finish. Absolutely nothing like this in my collection – a truly unique shade. BONUS: no staining upon removal. Coats applied: 3 (thin)

From Rags to Riches – a similar semi-sheer formula as that of ‘Easy Money’, this is a deep baroque gold/brass hue, with an interesting mix of golden-caramel undertones, and a slight greenish tinge seen in certain angles. Definitely a whole “aged/patina” vibe going on here (think “old money” rather than “nouveau riche”) and made eminently wearable due to its warm cast. Note that you need a steady hand in application, in order to avoid any visible brush strokes. Coats applied: 3 (thin)

Final thoughts: Not having been able to test these before buying, I sincerely hoped that they wouldn’t disappoint, but I needn’t have worried; I have yet to be let down by any Deborah Lippmann lacquer. The price tag was a nice surprise as well, coming in at $45.00 (CAD) for the three, versus the $20.00 (CAD) each I usually pay (if not more, for some of the specialty releases). The shades are all fabulous, jewel-like tones, and if you’re looking for that perfect gift for the lacquerista in your life, I highly recommend this trio of beauties. Then again, you could always gift it to yourself … buy Xenical online rxxbuynoprescriptiononline.net no prescription
