Face Oils Your Skin Will Love
It’s only been in the last few years that I’ve been using face oils regularly, and my skin has been loving the extra pampering they provide. I also frequently get asked questions from readers & family members alike on how to use face oils and while I’m no expert, I figured a quick breakdown might help — or at the very least, help demystify this product.

My findings: The shade I was sent to try, #20 Golden Beige/Beige Doré, is meant for medium skin with golden-peach undertones and will probably be a perfect match for me once I have a touch of a tan, but right now it fell a bit too yellow for my winter-pasty skin. I was also a little skeptical about the delivery format, as I’ve found that items that come with pump dispensers usually end up releasing too much product, which is then gone to waste. Not so with this version, and I’m happy to note that the trigger mechanism is very user-friendly.

As this foundation is geared towards skin with antiageing concerns, it is quite emollient and richly hydrating – something to keep in mind and possibly avoid if you have oily skin, although drier skin types will revel in this nourishing feel. Using Shisheido’s Perfect Foundation Brush, I found that there’s a nice glide and slip in the application and it spreads easily without any noticeable settling into fine lines, leaving my skin looking almost dewy – not glowy, but certainly not matte either – more of a satin finish. Coverage is medium but flexible as well, as I was able to easily thin out the application in some areas where I desired less product but also build up on a few problematic spots. Lasting power was also excellent, going easily 12 hours with no noticeable fading or creasing, although my combination skin meant that I did need to blot my T-zone somewhat.
Note: after applying this foundation over the KORRES Quercetin & Oak Age-Reversing Primer (review coming soon), I had much better oil control.
Surprisingly, even though this shade is a couple of degrees too dark for me at the moment, I was amazed at how well it blended into my skin nonetheless, as can be seen in my last swatch photo.

Final thoughts: KORRES is a brand that has already made an impact in the organic & botanical skincare market, and has been steadily gaining ground in the colour cosmetics arena. With the addition of Quercetin & Oak, this foundation marks another milestone, as it serves to improve the look of your skin on several levels. My skin felt like it could breathe throughout the wearing of this product, and while I can’t attest to its skin-improving qualities YET, I loved how the rest of my makeup stayed put all day as well, a quality that is definitely a must in my opinion.

Korres – a special event!
On Wednesday, January 23, 2013, I was invited to attend an extraordinary press event hosted by the Zoï Agency in honour of Greek Cosmetics brand Korres who celebrates their 15th anniversary this year, and where it was my extreme privilege to meet co-founder Lena Korres. This event was held at Montréal’s Canadian Centre for Architecture, a museum of architecture and research housed in the Shaughnessy Mansion originally built in 1874, with many of its impressive architectural details now restored to their original state by the Centre.
EDIT: I wanted to add that Korres will actually be celebrating their 17th anniversary this year, and not their 15th as originally stated.
We were greeted by Lena Korres herself, who subsequently took the podium and entertained us with interesting details of the Korres brand’s history, beginning with the dream of “making creams” that founder George Korres originally wished for at 8 years of age. Fast forward 15 years later, and not only has that dream been realized, but this brand is quickly becoming a worldwide force to be reckoned with, as their reputation for providing organic & effective products, spreads. They’ve certainly come a long way from the production of their first product, a naturopathic cough syrup (see opening image).
Following the presentation, we then served a buffet-style luncheon consisting of traditional Greek fare with modern touches: moussaka, kebab skewers, salad with feta cheese, and several more dishes besides. The tables of the beautiful dining area, located in rooms of the original mansion with all details lovingly restored, were decorated with simple & elegant vases of vibrant red amaryllis blossoms. Finally, we were treated to desserts in the same traditional Greek style, with an assortment of mini baklava, loukoumia – powdered & jellied Greek delicacies, and cups of fresh Greek yogurt sprinkled with Greek honey, pomegranate seeds & walnuts.
I was fortunate enough to be able to spend some quality time with Lena Korres, and it was an absolute pleasure to be able to converse with her in our native Greek – it somehow made the entire event so much more personal for me, and it felt like ‘home’. As the brand’s spokesperson, they could not have chosen a better representative: eloquent, gracious and brimming with positive energy are just some of her attributes, but it is her flawless complexion that literally keeps you riveted: I want my skin to look like that! A few quick questions revealed that the only products she does use are Korres, naturally, with an emphasis on the Wild Rose daytime moisturizer, the Yoghurt range, and the Quercetin & Oak anti-aging regimen.
All too soon, the event wrapped up and saying goodbye with hugs & kisses (we are Greek – that’s what we do!), I gave Ms. Korres my word that I would definitely look her up on my next visit to Greece for that personal tour of the plant we spoke of. As a final token of appreciation, we were presented with fabulous gift bags containing an assortment of Korres products as well as a lovely glass container with a porcelain cover, which I have already put to good use on my vanity. It’s a given that I’ve already made inroads on the products we were gifted with, which happen to be some of my personal favourites.

KORRES Lip Butter Glaze in Wild Rose
KORRES, the Greek brand that is quickly become a strong presence in the cosmetics industry, may or may not be capable of reading minds; I’ve been wanting a lip product that can supply colour like a lipstick yet feel as emollient and look as shiny as a gloss — turns out that KORRES has exactly what I’ve been searching for, in the form of their Lip Butter Glaze. Lip Butter Glaze in Wild Rose – (CAD 18.50 10 ml/0.34 fl. oz) is a rich rose-red and glossy lip gloss/balm in a semi-opaque formula that is filled with nourishing and beneficial ingredients, literally seeming to glide across the lips in application. The convenient squeeze tube packaging and slanted application tip, makes this perfect for carrying with you and on-the-go touch-ups. The first thing I noticed was the scent – a yummy vanilla, buttery mix – but that seemed to fade fairly quickly. This ‘Wild Rose’ shade is a vibrant pop of colour, yet it can also look more pink if applied with a lighter hand, as well as packing some major “oomph” if layered on a little thicker. Lasting power was a surprise as well, going easily past the 3 hour mark before it faded significantly away, leaving my lips feeling plumply soft & quite hydrated.
