Illamasqua for the S.O.P.H.I.E. Foundation

n 2007, a young girl named Sophie Lancaster was brutally beaten to death.  Her crime? Looking ‘different’.  As a result of that senseless tragedy, her mother, Sylvia Lancaster, created S.O.P.H.I.E, a foundation dedicated to eradicating, prejudice, hatred and intolerance EVERYWHERE and, in honour of that noble pursuit, cult British beauty brand, Illamasqua, has been a constant & staunch supporter of this foundation, doing everything they can to pass this message along.

As a beauty blogger, it hits a raw nerve that a young person’s life could be forfeit, simply because their look did not conform to the standard norm of what we perceive beauty to be. One should feel free & safe enough to be able to explore all expressions of beauty, and thus I firmly believe that embracing ones’s individuality and creativity should be applauded, not condemned.  For everyone reading this post, please take a few minutes of your time and look over the following two video clips, and hopefully find it within your hearts to simply pass this message along.

Hatred, prejudice and intolerance are so NOT cool. Let’s put an end to all that now, before someone else pays the ultimate price.

The following short film, ‘Dark Angel’, was commissioned by Illamasqua in 2009 as a tribute to Sophie, and was created by award-winning French director Fursy Teyssier, which is hauntingly poignant rendition of Sophie’s story, featuring music by iconic British band, Portishead.

Please, please pass this message along to show your support.  Thank you, dear readers…
