IDC · Ultime Collection
Unintentionally, as I’ve been getting older my focus appears to be shifting more & more towards skincare — not that my love of makeup is going anywhere soon, mind you. That said and for Day 3 of my Skincare Week series, when I was recently approached to partner up and review the Ultime range from IDC+, a brand founded by brothers Eric & Luc Dupont, that happens to be celebrating its 10th anniversary this year AND which hails from my home province of Québec, I was simultaneously proud, intrigued, and excited; I’m always ready to play guinea pig for you guys, and boy will you want to know more about these products. For real.
KORRES – Quercetin & Oak Antiwrinkle Night Cream (trial & review)
By now, we all know that when we go to sleep, that’s when our skin goes to task and performs most of its restorative magic; using the right night cream can not only help the process along, but amplify the work as well. Call me lazy (guilty, as charged), but by employing minimal effort on my part AND getting to enjoy the result, ie: younger-looking skin, now THAT’S my kind of skincare regimen. Gives a whole new meaning to “lady of the night” …
a fabulous article on Korres in the October 2012 issue of Fashion magazine
While we all know what an oak is, what exactly is “Quercetin” you might ask? According to the company, Quercetin is a “flavenoid derived from the bark of the oak tree, which has been clinically proven to have exceptional performance in boosting proteasome activity, in relation to the essential ageing bio-markers”. Ok, so now you may be wondering what “Proteasome” might be, right? Once more according to the company:
“inside every healthy cell in the human body is the proteasome — a protein complex that plays a powerful role in maintaing cell health. In skin cells, the proteasome acts as a natural mechanism performing 2 critical functions that keep skin acting healthy and looking young:
- they break down and eliminate damaged, toxic skin proteins that cause signs of ageing
- they recycle amino acids, the building blocks needed to create healthy proteins — collagen and elastin — that keep skin looking young”
After conducting a five-year study (in conjunction with the National Hellenic Research Foundation and the University of Athens) on the role proteasomes play in skin cell ageing, Korres developed this innovative ‘Quercetin & Oak Antiwrinkle Night Cream’ that targets our skin’s ageing process at its source, all the while helping to strengthen the work our cells continue to do for us. Additional ingredients include:
- myrtle extract agent – an anti-aging booster, helps to improve skin elasticity
- mourera fluviatilis extract – has moisture-binding activity, which helps to maintain the skin’s water levels
- jojoba, grape and pomegranate oils – provides nourishment throughout the night
*Note that as with all Korres products, this is also free of parabens and synthetics.
I prefer to thoroughly test a product (and its claims) out before I report on it, and to that end, I delayed my review until this entire jar was done. Beginning with the amber-coloured, opaque solid glass container, the first thing you see upon opening the jar, is the plastic protective inner seal (fig. 1) – as I’ve stated before, I appreciate it when a company takes the steps to preserve the integrity of their product’s ingredients this way. There’s a bright candy-like scent, with an intriguing woody/vanilla undertone that seems somehow fresh, although I’m having a hard time pinning it down and describing it correctly. The ivory coloured cream (fig. 2) feels a little cool to the touch, and has a nice consistency to it, not runny or overly thick, but bearing an excellent consistency and very easy to apply – no more than a nickel-sized amount is needed for the entire face and neck.

My results:
I absolutely LOVE this cream. Its highly emollient and hydrating properties make it perfectly suited for a night cream, as it absorbs slowly & thoroughly into your skin while you sleep. Every morning, I would wake up to baby soft skin, and I swear my face even seemed a little plumper in certain key areas (anything to fill out some nasty creasing, am I right?), and I never once experiencing that morning dreaded “raspy” skin feel. As a result of consistent use, I noticed that my face had an overall brighter and more even tone, although it would be difficult to state if I experienced any significant decrease with individual fine lines. Nevertheless, having a more even complexion in general made any lines all that much harder to discern – something I have absolutely no problem with!

Final thoughts: Having been less than vigilant with my skin when I was younger (hello: tanning with a mirrored reflector, anyone?), I am definitely paying the price for those acts of youth & folly now, and while I’m not yet ready to try certain more invasive procedures yet (but I am holding them in reserve for the not-too-distant future), I am a firm believer in thoroughly moisturizing every inch of skin (and hair too, for that matter). To that end, I look for truly effective skincare to aid me along in my quest of looking younger & definitely healthier, and it’s always a pleasant bonus when a product delivers on its claims. This Korres ‘Quercetin & Oak Antiwrinkle Night Cream’ is one such product, and seeing as how it’s applied only at night, its rich properties will not interfere with the look and feel of your daytime skin. The only reaction I can truthfully claim I had with this cream, is one of fabulous skin. I can SO live with that.
