This past March 5th, the last collection created by the late Karl Lagerfeld for the House of CHANEL (Ready-To-Wear Autumn/Winter 2019) was held at the Grand Palais, with the venue transformed into a magical alpine scene and the theme of the show feeling quite fittingly like this legendary man’s Wintery swan-song. Devoted to all aspects of the glam chalet life, the creations drew their inspiration not only from the season, but heritage fabrics as well. Observing a minute of silence at the start, the rest of the show stayed true to Lagerfeld’s vision and left the entire audience speechless. The finale had emotions running high and tears were definitely flowing, but in the end it was a celebration — an homage to the creative genius of this one man who transformed the world of fashion, and whose touch will continue to be felt for generations to come.
The hair looks were created by long-time collaborator Sam McKnight, and kept stylishly minimal; natural waves, a centre part with the top half pulled loosely back and held with a variety of CHANEL-centric pieces: pearled logo-clips, bejewelled snowflakes, tweed camellias, and feathery pom-poms. And now, I want to hunt down & collect every single one.
The beauty look, created by Lucia Pica, has got to rank as one of my favourites to date, primarily because it’s not only effortlessly easy to recreate and looks absolutely natural — and by extension, totally wearable — but literally epitomizes that rosy-cheeked & fresh-faced kind of glow one gets from a day spent outdoors.
