Inspired by the Floridian landscape of palm trees & sun-washed colours, the Sunkissed Summer 2018 Collection by Clarins effectively includes all the products you’ll need to help you create easy-breezy looks … beach not included, sadly. Oh, and how cute is the flamingo motif & the fabric makeup bag?
Bronzing Compact, limited edition (CAN $42.00) | An oversized tri-coloured bronzing powder housed in an acrylic compact case adorned with pink flamingos on the cover (which I totally adore, by the way). The three hues are described as matte in finish, but I find that there’s just the slightest bit of sheen which keeps them from appearing flat when applied along the skin. The formula is created with the brand’s Anti-Pollution Complex that helps protect against free radicals while providing you with that perfect sun-flushed glow. The texture of the powder is very fine-milled and melds beautifully upon the skin once it warms up with your natural oils, and I appreciate that each segment is large enough to be used individually, if desired — although the real beauty is in swirling your brush through all three for a more balanced effect. You also have the option of adjusting the colour to meet your complexion needs, all depending on how much of either the light or dark hue you pick up. TIP: you can also use it as eyeshadow, which is also a great way of tying the look together.
I pulled out past bronzers from Clarins that I have in my collection, and I was surprised to note that this year’s version is quite different in colour — leaning slightly more neutral, in my opinion — although the texture remains the same.
4-Colour All-In-One Pen, limited edition (CAN $35.00) | With 4 shades that come housed in a click-style pen format, this is an all-in-one product for both eyes and lips — not to mention how utterly portable it is. The included deep black, aqua green, and intense plum eye liners can be smudged out for a diffused effect (just work one eye at a time to prevent the colour from setting too fast) and safe to use along the waterline as well, while the pink/red lip liner can be used alone & applied smudged out along the lips, as a liner, or as an anchoring base for either gloss or lipstick worn on top. Plus it has that secret-agent coolness factor as well!
08 Blackberry Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil (CAN $25.00) | The newest addition to the brand’s lip oil range, this is a blackberry coloured hybrid gloss/balm that also bears a light (& totally delish) blackberry flavour. The formula includes hazelnut, organic jojoba, and acaï oils for continuous hydration and protective benefits, along with one of the most comfortable lip-feels you’ve ever come across. The large flocked paddle-shaped applicator picks up enough product per swipe to effectively cover the lips and the gloss left behind is actually quite brilliant. Staying power is as expected — about 3 hours (less if eating and/or drinking), although it does leave a light stain, and the moisturizing effect lingers long after all traces of product are gone.
With Summer still going full throttle and vacations not yet over, I feel that this collection is spot-on perfect for anyone looking to pack light or who prefers a minimum amount of makeup that still packs an impact. I also believe that Clarins bronzers are rather underrated and offer amazing quality for the price, while this brand’s Lip Comfort Oils are actually staples in my makeup bag. As to the All-In-One Pen, it’s not only absolutely travel-friendly but can provide hours of clicking amusement — yes, I can be quite juvenile that way.
