The latest liquid lip iteration from Dior, Dior Addict Lip Tattoo, was directly inspired by current trends spotted both on the streets and backstage. Creative and Image Director for the brand, Peter Philips, wanted to make a product that was long-lasting but totally weightless in feel and I’m not sure exactly what kind of wizardry was involved, but somehow the impossible was achieved. PS: can we take a moment and ooh over this bag?
Dior Addict Lip Tattoo (CAN $36.00/each) | Housed in opaque tubes with a rubberized feel to them, each is coloured with its corresponding shade which makes it a breeze to grab the one you’re looking for. The rounded and flocked applicator is small enough for getting to all corners of the lips yet still large enough to provide colour with a single swipe. This innovative formula is an excellent mix of colorants and pigments as well as water & oils; what this means, is that several minutes after application (sorry Dior, but it’s definitely ‘minutes’ and not ‘seconds’ as claimed), the water portion which constitutes 50% of the formula, evaporates and leaves behind the colour/tint. Adding to the entire effect is an initially cooling feel and a lovely vanilla-minty fragrance (which dissipates once dry), leaving lips hydrated thanks to emollient agents added in for comfort and a no-lipstick sensation. Wear time is excellent as the luminous finish of each shade gives way to a nice & even stain.
In the swatches below, I experimented with 881 Natural Pink Tint all over the lips and 761 Natural Cherry Tint in the centre for a fun ombré effect.
- 451 Natural Coral Tint (Nordstrom exclusive) – coral rose, both cool & warm
- 491 Natural Rosewood Tint – deep nude rose
- 761 Natural Cherry Tint – deep red pink (most universal shade of the bunch)
- 771 Natural Berry Tint– lush berry
- 881 Natural Pink Tint – rich pink
- 351 Natural Nude Tint (not shown)
Dior has truly been hitting it right out of the park lately, both in terms of collections and colours being released … as well as formulas. As far as liquid lipsticks are concerned, I’ve always had an issue with the desiccating feel most leave behind and while I love the look, I seriously can’t get past that effect, so I tend to not reach for them all that much. That was then, this is now: two words come to mind with the new Dior Addict Lip Tattoo, and that is game-changer. Maybe that should be one word, but there you have it. The range may be small at the moment, but I’m sure hoping that will change because these are totally my kind of ink.
Note: my press release says that they’re available now, although Sephora online (Canada) isn’t showing anything yet and The Bay is only showing two shades, so I suggest you check in person.
