Today is the first day of Spring (can I have a “hallelujah”) and to mark the occasion, I’m featuring a few shades from Dior’s new Dior Addict Stellar Shine Lipstick range. So, put your mattes & darks away and hop over to the shiny side … it feels amazing, trust me.
The iconic Dior Addict transparent/prismatic case has been given a tweak with the logo done in pink. So cute, am I right?
Dior Addict Stellar Shine Lipstick (CAN $46.00/each) | Available in 28 shades, these also come in 3 finishes that you can play with: pure shine, sparkle, or mirror. The formula boasts up to 8 hours of wear, but I’m guessing that’s probably more for the darker shades and those who don’t manage to move their lips in any way, shape or form; there’s slip in the formula (hence the shine), so let’s just say that you can probably expect them to need reapplication way before the 8-hour mark — which is fine, as I’ll take any excuse to whip one of these out in public.
The formula is infused with aloe for a fresh effect on the lips (it’s so true: you definitely get a cooling sensation with initial application), along with natural beeswax and oils for comfort, while the intense shine comes via pearlescent micro-pigments that are there to reflect light.
- N° 352 D-Galaxy | sparkle rosy peach
- N° 595 Diorstellaire | mirror purple
- N° 649 Diorosphere | dark peach (shine)
- N° 869 Superstitious | dark plum (shine)
Dior definitely knows a thing or 20 about creating an excellent lipstick product, and while I confess to being a bit skeptical as to how these would stand out from the regular Dior Addict ranges, I was also unprepared for how quickly they won me over. For starters, the shine is phenomenal, although don’t expect full-on gloss brilliance; they’re lipsticks, right? Secondly, I was blown away by 2 of the shades for completely different reasons: D-Galaxy for being the perfect nude-pink and magically-disappearing-shimmer-that-still-adds-depth, and Diorstellaire for being an unconventional shade but which is so completely wearable. What? How? That’s not to say the other two aren’t gorgeous, because they are: Diorosphere for being drop-dead juicy, and Superstitious for looking like the yummiest berry shade ever. Oh, and all leave some kind of stain behind which will naturally be shade-dependent, while the absolute comfort level throughout wear is just the icing on the cake.
Is it just me, or does it feel like this is the year of shiny lips? Maybe it’s because warmer weather is upon us, but I’m so ok with that — not that I have anything against mattes, but even though I love their editorial impact, the sad reality is that most are quite drying on me and wind up giving me old-looking lips. Not the look I’m going for. That said, thank you Dior for somehow reinventing the shiny balm/lippie with Dior Addict Stellar Shine and damn you Dior because now I have to go check out the other 24 shades (my poor wallet …)
