Dior Skyline Fall 2016 | Nude Air Luminizer, Le Vernis Skyline & Minimal

Dior Skyline polishes & Luminizer opener

For Fall 2016, Creative and Image Director for Dior Makeup, Peter Philips, has drawn inspiration from the Autumnal Paris landscape with the release of the Skyline Fall 2016 Collection. The first items I’m showing from this absolutely luscious gathering, are the two limited edition nail lacquers along with what has to be one of the most stunning highlighters I’ve tried to date — although truthfully, there’s even more incredible pieces that will be following (no, but really).

Nude Air Luminizer (CAN $68.00) | Housed in a hefty yet sleek silver compact etched with the brand’s iconic ‘Cannage’ pattern, this is a pale rose-gold tinted luminizing powder in a texture that goes beyond being fine-milled: it’s ULTRA fine-milled. Displaying amazing pigmentation, a little goes a long way and I recommend starting with a loose brush such as a fan-tail, in order to avoid depositing too much product at once — although you can also easily buff out any excess in that eventuality. The colour is universally wearable by a broad variety of skin tones, while its reflective nature is quite sophisticated and gives radiance, as opposed to brilliance. Also included is a small natural-haired kabuki brush that is surprisingly quite well made and of a good enough size to be actually usable (points scored for that).

Dior Skyline polish

Le Vernis 848 Skyline, limited edition (CAN $33.00) | A dusky chocolate mauve/deep mulberry hue filled with ‘secret shimmer’ that Dior does so well, in a hybrid crème-jelly formula. Application is in a word, SPECTACULAR – laying down effortlessly along the nail without pooling at the cuticles, levelling out smoothly and leaving behind a natural glossy finish. BONUS: no staining upon removal.

Coats: 2, no top coat

Dior Minimal polish

Le Vernis 112 Minimal, limited edition (CAN $33.00) | Pale nude with peachy undertones giving it that ‘doll skin’ tone, in a formula that displays excellent flow & density. Some patchiness seen with the first coat (not unexpected from a shade in this colour family), although good coverage is reached with a second layer – especially on short nails; longer nails will benefit from a 3rd thin coat for ideal opacity.

I’ve made it no secret here on the blog, that I am head over heels for Dior polishes; for starters, the formula is phenomenal in ever sense of the word (flow, coverage, colour, etc) and the brush is one of my absolute faves (other brushes I love include that of Guerlain and now the new Essie Gel Couture lacquers) — if you’ve yet to indulge in this brand’s polishes, then you’re missing out on a great ‘nail experience’ (can I be more dramatic?). As someone who is quasi-obsessed with highlighters, I can tell you that not all are made equal; some are too gold, others too white and others still are way too glittery. This Nude Air Luminizer strikes the perfect balance between adding radiance with just a hint of colour to keep it from looking harsh, with a true light-as-air texture that makes it ridiculous easy to work with. Red-carpet worthy, indeed.

Available early August
