Dior Vernis #995 Minuit (LE) – Golden Winter 2013 Collection

Dior Minuit opener

To look at Dior’s Golden Winter 2013 Collection, is like looking into the jewelry box of Marie Antoinette; filled with tones of pink & gold, this collection takes its inspiration from Versailles at midnight. No need to add any more … that romantic imagery is more than enough for me. I first fell for the retro shape of these chubby bottles when they were introduced with last year’s Grand Bal holiday collection (previously reviewed here and here) – the ultimate in refined femininity. Plus they’re just so darned cute.

#995 Minuit (limited edition) (CAN $27.00) – a deep bordeaux/prune base hue filled with rose-gold, copper & bronze ultra fine glitter. With its sublime formula – perfect density, flow, self-levelling capacity, and super glossy finish – this shade is nothing short of totally luxurious. Dark enough to satisfy my need for vampy shades yet still shy of looking like yet another blackened lacquer, the shimmery bits here look like they’re literally floating just under the nail surface – LOVE! Coats applied: 2, plus 1 layer of Dior Gel Top Coat

I have fallen very hard for this lacquer, and it has quickly risen to the ranks of one of my all-time favourite shades. The fact that the formula is ridiculously easy to apply (even the brush isn’t the usual paddle style that Dior favours with their regular lineup of lacquers, neither is it of the thinner variety – densely packed & flexible bristles, and just enough width enough to work comfortably with), makes it more than worth the heftier price tag. I’m already planning on getting a back up of this limited edition beauty … how can I resist?

  1. I have waffled on this shade so many times now! I see it in swatches and love it, then I see it in person in the bottle and I’m not wowed. But GAH it is so gorgeous on you, Eugenia!! I just might have to buy it, finally…we’ll see if it’s available in NYC; if so, it will be mine! 🙂

Lucky, lucky girl — it’s been too long since I visited NYC, so I’m most definitely jealous (but still happy for you!) If you do spot it on your trip, why not give it a quick swatch at the counter to see if it “speaks” to you? This way, you can put all the second-guessing behind! Safe travels, my friend!

  2. Oh wow, Versailles at midnight?!
These are beautiful, this colour is gorgeous.

I looked at this in duty free but decided to get Taboo instead.

A legendary brand, a beautiful bottle and a very magical shade. This one has got it all!

  5. Ack, so beautiful! It’s been a while since I’ve indulged in a Dior polish. I have storage OCD issues and want to stay away from these seasonal round ones, but your swatches certainly make a very strong case for these little beauties!

Your post is timed well because my nails are bare right now. It was divine intervention 🙂 I was on the fence about Frimas, too. On some people, it’s looking taupe and on others more rosy/mauve. But I have no will power so I got it anyway! (Plus, I do think it’s a unique shade, even if it turns out to be uniquely ugly on me lol)

    • Eugenia says:

Hahahaha! I like your thinking! Something tells me that I’ll be caving & getting it too; I already own Marilyn which came out last year and the white shade wasn’t released here (I have a feeling it’s similar to last year’s white — don’t remember the name), and I also shelled out for the Jewelled manicure Duo (which is so freaky-looking in some lights — post coming soon!)

      • Vienne says:

You got the jewelled duo? You are fearless! Can’t wait for that post. I still feel edgy doing an accent nail (or 2 -gasp!) LOL. I almost got Marilyn but I’m so loving my Armani 400 that I wasn’t ready for another red yet 🙂

      • Eugenia says:

I bought Marilyn when it was originally released last year (the Grand Bal Collection) — way before GA Four Hundred came out, which I also love by the way! And the jewelled duo is pretty unique – I couldn’t resist!

  7. Vienne says:

I ordered Minuit and Frimas but haven’t had the chance to wear them yet. Your swatches have me drooling! I think it is definitely time to don Minuit 🙂

    • Eugenia says:

Minuit is hands-down AMAZING! I’m still on the fence about picking up Frimas, as I thought it looked to close to my skin tone…though I haven’t ruled it out either, lol! Now go put on Minuit!

What are your thoughts, beautiful?
