Guerlain · Lingerie de Peau Aqua Nude & Cushion Foundations

Several weeks ago I was invited to a “back to school” Guerlain media preview to discover several of the brand’s upcoming releases, and today’s post focuses on the newly launched foundations from the Lingerie de Peau lineup, Aqua Nude and Cushion. Both come in formulas that I personally prefer, I might add — but a hunch tells me that they’ll be finding favour with many others as well. Let’s just say that class was NEVER more fun!

At the media event I was also gifted with an exclusive set of Guerlain Professional Makeup Brushes that came housed in a lovely faux-suede brush roll. I’ve complained in the past that this brand needed to step up their game and create brushes worthy of the house’s heritage, and the five brushes in this set are definitely all that — and more. The only thing missing? Making these part of the permanent lineup … and adding even more.

Back to school with Guerlain

Lingerie de Peau Aqua Nude Water-Infused Perfecting Fluid (CAN $60.00) | A water based liquid foundation that is available in 6 shades, this gives a sheer finish but still manages to even out skin tone just the same (but definitely not a product for anyone looking for deeper and/or more opaque coverage). Containing ‘skincare water’, the texture is ultra-lightweight and fairly long lasting all things considered, without showing signs of oxidation throughout wear. The feel is very comfortable and once applied, the volatile oils in the formula evaporate to leave behind a perfectly light veil of colour that fuses beautifully with the skin. You can use a brush for application, although the warmth of your fingers will do a much better job and ensure you blend it evenly into the skin. TIP: contents need to be shaken well prior to use, but I also advise opening the cap carefully as it may start flowing out on its own (due to the pressure).

It must be noted that as with all other Guerlain cosmetics, fragrance plays a huge role in the creation process and this is no exception; the iconic violet-rose scent will eventually dissipate, but it’s still worth noting for those with sensitivities. The only downside I see, is the rather limited shade selection and how most are pink-based at that; here’s hoping that the brand will look into addressing both these points.

Lingerie de Peau Cushion Anti-Fatigue Perfecting Fluid (CAN $58.00) | Guerlain has finally jumped onto the cushion foundation trend with this latest release; available in 4 shades, the coverage leans on the sheer side, although you can build it up enough to even out skin tone with ease. What makes this version unique, however, is the delivery system: instead of the ubiquitous cushion, you instead depress the top section until product appears through the holes, which you can then scoop up with either the included dense flat sponge, or use a brush — which stretches the ‘cushion’ part of the name, but there you have it. Personally, I find this method more hygienic to use and clean up is much easier as well. The texture is ultra light and meshes beautifully with the skin, keeping your complexion well hydrated throughout the wearing and without showing any signs of oxidation. It bears noting that this product is fragranced as well, although at a lighter degree than the Aqua Nude.

Once again, my complaint is the limiting shade range, although the undertones appear to be more universally wearable than the Aqua Nude. Barring that, the way this foundation looks and feels upon the skin has certainly elevated the genre a few notches.

Where are the brushes made and what kind of hair, please?

    • Eugenia says:

I believe the brushes are all synthetic, but I’m not 100% sure. As this was a gift, I don’t have much more information than this and I don’t think they’re available for sale either.

  2. Carolina says:

I would love to try the liquid foundation, I wonder if it would work for oily skin! xx

It is meant to work on all skin types, but my experience shows that this formula works best on those with combo – oily complexions.

What are your thoughts, beautiful?
