For Summer 2017, Guerlain has created Terracotta Chic Tropic Sun Light Duo Bronzing Powder Face & Décolleté, a limited edition version of their iconic 03 shade that comes in the most precious-looking tin. From the brand that has literally written the book on sporting the most natural-looking bronzer, this little lovely will not only see you through the sweltering heat, but help you carry the glow well into the cooler months ahead — although I’m going to pretend that that’s not happening any time soon.
Terracotta Chic Tropic Sun Light Duo Bronzing Powder, limited edition (CAN $80.00)| Housed in a collectible (and reusable) tin, this is a bronzing powder that can be used for face, neck & décolleté. The stunning Art Deco-inspired design of the powder bears a golden overspray that will disappear by the first swipe, leaving behind the actual bronzing powder studded with smaller coral segments (the ‘blush’ pieces). The bronzing hue is in the brand’s best-selling 03 shade, a universally flattering warm-leaning tan colour that can be easily worn by a variety of skin tones to provide the most natural-looking sunlit glow. The texture of the powder is so incredibly fine-milled that it literally fuses almost invisibly with the skin and never just sits at surface level, while its moisturizing yet lightweight properties ensure that it never oxidizes with wear. The tropical fragrance turns Chic Tropic into a sensorial experience; with notes of ylang-ylang, orange blossom, tonka bean, vanilla, and white musk, it’s like holding a mini getaway in the palm of your hand (if you don’t believe me, take one whiff and you’ll see what I’m talking about) — and while the scent does dissipate relatively quickly after application, it is quite strong upon opening up the tin and worth noting for those with sensitivities.
I decided to compare Chic Tropic with last year’s limited edition Terra Magnifica (a Sephora exclusive) and while there are similarities — both come in tins and have the same bronzer 03 shade — this year’s iteration has a touch more shimmer in the formula as well as a hint more of a ruddy tone, visible in the swatch photo below.
Guerlain’s Terracotta bronzers are my Holy Grail and hands down the ones I reach for the most. Apart from the fact that this is the brand which was the first to launch a powdered bronzer into the market, it’s the texture and result which speaks volumes — that indescribable special something which makes this product stand head & shoulders about the rest. I love the fact that Chic Tropic is in an oversized format, as it makes it easy for me to swirl any sized brush in there that I choose and while I’m fairly certain I won’t be finishing it up any time soon to repurpose the tin, I can always display it instead. See? There’s a solution to everything.
