Guerlain recently launched Two-Tone Blush, cheek duos comprised of blush & highlighter in one compact that are meant to recreate the ‘draping technique’ (i.e.: blush that goes from cheeks to temples) — an effect which appears to be quite ‘in’ at the moment, but in reality has actually been used by makeup artists for decades. Trend factor aside, the two shades have something else working for them: beautiful, wearable, colour.
02 Neutral Pink Two-Tone Blush (CAN $65.00) | The lighter hued and cooler-toned of the two blush shades available, this a soft rose blush paired with an icy pink highlighter. Made with “Pink Booster Pigments which capture natural red light to help reveal the innate rosiness of the complexion”, the texture is buttery soft and blends effortlessly along the skin. Each pan portion is large enough to be used individually, although I’d suggest using a medium sized brush for the job & skip the extra-poofy ones. You can also combine the two shades to create a unique new blush/highlighter hybrid that combines the best of both, which also serves to provide a luminous flush of colour along the cheeks.
Note that both blushes bear the brand’s iconic violet fragrance, although this dissipates quickly after application.
03 Soft Coral Two-Tone Blush (CAN $65.00) | The more warmer-leaning of the two shades, this is a stunning soft coral/apricot hue with an accompanying pale golden highlighter. With the same formula, texture & application as 02 Neutral Pink, this duo appears to have a stronger pigmentation, with a little definitely going a long way. That said, start with a light amount and build up but remember you can always tamp things down by buffing lightly over the colour with the brush/sponge used to apply your foundation with. Even though it’s the more obvious warmer option, it can still be worn by those with cooler complexions — just make sure to diffuse it out along the cheeks with a fan or dual-fibre brush.
Guerlain is certainly known for its range of exquisite fragrances and the iconic Météorites powder pearls … now you can add these Two-Tone Blush duos to that list. So what makes them stand out? I can’t put my finger on it specifically, but it’s something more along the lines of the resulting effect on the skin: a beautiful flush of colour that never just sits at surface level, but appears to almost radiate from the inside out. Now all we need are more shades. Guerlain, I sure hope you’re listening.
