Guerlain · Terracotta Sun Trio & Aqua Allegoria Bergamote Calabria

From the brand that has literally written the book on bronzers (Guerlain actually created the first compact powdered bronzer), comes Terracotta Sun Trio — a beautiful triad that can multitask as well as enhance. And with warmer, sunnier weather just around the corner, there’s no better time to switch up your usual scent for something fresher … something like Bergamote Calabria, the brand’s latest addition to the Aqua Allegoria fragrance range. For the record, both of these lovelies are doing an amazing job of helping me to ignore the grey, gloomy & dismal rainy day outside of my window right now … le sigh

Terracotta Sun Trio Bronzing Contouring Palette, Natural (CAN $63.00) | I’m a huge fan of Guerlain’s Terracotta bronzers and it’s no secret that they’re the ones I reach for the most, but this one may be my favourite version to date. Housed in the brand’s signature faux-tortoiseshell casing, the ultra fine texture of the powder is infused with nourishing ingredients to keep from looking and/or feeling dry after application and also contains Vitamins C & E  along with pearlescent bronzing powders for a multi-tonal glow. Bearing a fragrance that’s redolent of Summer (think: tropical Tiaré flowers underscored by a thread of vanilla), the finish of the powder is described as matte, but I still detect a slight sheen which I actually prefer, as I find this looks more natural upon the skin. Each compact is divided into 3 sections: top left (highlight), top right (contour) and bottom half (& centre) for bronzing, with each segment large enough to be used individually (although both the highlight and contour portions will need a small-headed brush for the job), or you can combine the three shades for a customized hue.

My first thought was that Sun Trio was a revamped version of 4 Seasons and while there are similarities in the set-up, there are differences as well:

  • 3 versus 4 coloured segments (∗duh∗)
  • fragrance somewhat stronger with the 4 Seasons
  • finish of the texture slightly more matte with Sun Trio
  • coloration warmer-leaning with Sun Trio

Aqua Allegoria Bergamote Calabria, Eau de Toilette (CAN $78.00/75 ml) | Originally launched in 1999, the Aqua Allegoria fragrance range is a collection of fresh scents that are a tribute to nature and magnificent gardens. This latest version is inspired by the sun-drenched bergamot orchards of Calabria, Italy, and comes housed in a bottle adorned with the brand’s iconic bee (on the cap) along with honeycomb detailing. Classified as earthy/woody, the fragrance is both grounded and uplifting and calls to mind those lazy, hazy Summer days.

  • Top Notes – Green Notes, Pink Peppercorn, Bergamot Zest
  • Heart Notes – Cardamom, Petit Grain, Ginger, Bergamot Juice
  • Base Notes – White Musks, Amber Vanilla

Everyone has their preferred season and mine is Summer, hands down (it figures: I’m a July baby). If there’s something that Guerlain has effectively mastered, it’s the art of the perfect bronzer and Terracotta Sun Trio gives that perfect ‘natural tan’ finish I look for. That said, the shades here can also be used to create more intricate shadow & light upon the face, but I’m lazy and prefer to swirl them all together. When it comes to fragrances, I’m the type who tends to stick within the same family but every now and then I like to lighten things up, so Aqua Allegoria Bergamote Calabria will definitely begetting a workout once the temps start to rise … which I wish was happening right now, actually. Did I mention that my fave season is Summer?
