Illamasqua – Facet Nail Varnish (Sacred Hour Collection)

Illamasqua Facet opener

Some things are just meant to be; when I happened to step into the Illamasqua boutique at the downtown Montréal Hudson’s Bay store a few weeks ago, I was checking out the brand’s latest collection – Sacred Hour – and I naturally gravitated towards this one particular shade: Facet. Gorgeous, unique, like nothing I own in my vast collection of lacquers, limited edition … and so totally sold out. Insert major sad face here. But happily, I was able to order it online through The Bay’s website – free shipping too!

Illamasqua Facet 2

Facet (CAD $17.00/15 ml) – a muted grey base with mauve undertones in a mid-sheer formula, filled with irregularly shaped bronze shards as well as sparser pink & green flecks. As with every other Illamasqua lacquer I own, the flow and density was spot-on perfect, applying in a self-levelling way and becoming fully opaque by the second coat. This odd combination of colours (grey with antiqued gold) in theory shouldn’t work at all — but for some reason here, it just DOES. Depending on the light and your angle, this shade might pull deeper grey then morph into a bronzite hue, but no matter which colour it appears, there’s this eerie murky effect that’s prevalent – almost as though it’s being viewed through a veil. With a gorgeously glossy shine at the finish and bearing an easy removal, this shade is pure LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. Coats applied: 2, plus top coat

I couldn’t be happier that I was able to add ‘Facet’ to my collection – not because this shade is a limited edition item, but because of how incredibly unique it is in terms of colour — something that’s becoming harder and harder to accomplish in the already overcrowded world of nail polish. That the formula is perfection, is just the icing on this cake. Oh yeah … us Canadians don’t have to be gouged by Sephora’s inflated prices on this brand anymore, since one can now purchase Illamasqua products through The Bay (in-store Illamasqua boutiques at select stores, or online). Sweet, very sweet.

I ordered Facet through The Bay online.

This shade is perfect ♥ what a stunner!!

  2. It’s such a stunning, unique shade. I love smoky, dusty colours, but this one looks like you’re looking through fogged-up glass. Gorgeous, just gorgeous.

  3. This is the most interesting polish I’ve seen in a while – LOVE it! I doubt it would look as good on me as it does on you, but I can still appreciate its beauty 🙂

  4. Roberta says:

Thanks for this post! I went to The Bay on Queen Street in Toronto and I was SO HAPPY to find Illamasqua there. I immediately looked for Facet and bought it on the spot. This was in September. I couldn’t believe it was $5 cheaper than Sephora. So happy! I’ve ordered from Illamasqua online before, but I’m so happy that I can get it from The Bay. I’m even more excited that I can order it online now with free shipping. 🙂

Argh, I want this to show up here somewhere! I have been lusting after this one forever! Your photos are gorgeous, as always, Eugenia! They don’t help the lemming! Hahahaha.

    • Eugenia says:

WHAT? I know I’ve seen photos floating of Facet around the blogosphere for some time now — I would have sworn that you folks south of the border, had this baby way before we did! It’s gorgeous and unique and I really, really hope you get a hold of it!

  6. Catarina says:

In Portugal I would have to purchase this item online and the price is almost 20€ (asos.com)… it just seems so expensive!
But if there is a shade worth that, then this is one of them…
As always your swatches are super!

    • Eugenia says:

Thank you, Catarina! I can’t believe how pricey this lacquer is where you are — ouch! Still, if you splurge on just one shade from this collection, make it Facet!

  7. amandabambii says:

I swear I have an eyeshadow similar to this! Absolutely gorgeous!

  8. Reminds me of Loreal Brit Invasion! Too bad we don’t have Illamasqua in the Philippines 🙁

  9. Jolène says:

I quite literally just went onto the Bay’s website and ordered it (along with Bacterium and Radium). You’re a terrible influence! 🙂

    • Eugenia says:

LOL! Bacterium is another unique shade (I posted swatches some time ago)…I never did pick up Radium, but it’s on my wish list (along with 10 million other Illamasqua products!)

  10. danishapop says:

thank you for the tip i wanted it so bad!

  11. Natalie says:

I adore Facet; just blogged about it as well. 🙂 It’s one beautiful polish that us Canucks can cherish by ourselves for a little while. 🙂

    • Eugenia says:

Just to be clear, Facet was not a Canadian exclusive the way Gothiqua was … I know that it was also released in the US, along with on Illamasqua’s website. It definitely is amazing, though!

  12. Such a unique shade, love it!

  13. Niki T. says:

    Wow, that polish is amazing!

  14. OMG it was sold out when I got there and I didn’t even think about ordering it online. (Still thinking of it as the old school The Bay, not the new and improved Hudson’s Bay!) But I want so many things from Illamasqua that I’m having a really hard time picking anything.

Btw, were you able to check out the Eaton Centre/Queen Street Hudson’s Bay the last time you were here? They have a super sweet Armani corner that is now 100 times better than Armani at Holt’s. You’d die.

    • Eugenia says:

I know – it didn’t occur to me to check online, until I remembered Tracy mentioning something about that, then it was like BAM! and I’m all over it! It’s still showing available on The Bay’s website, by the way. Our downtown (flagship) Bay store is getting set to open their own fancy-shmancy Armani boutique in just a couple of weeks – but I already managed to pick up a few items before the grand event! 🙂 PS: In answer to your question, when I was in TO a couple of weeks ago, my every minute was accounted for — wish I had time to check out some of your stores 🙁 Next time, for sure!

  15. Wow! What an incredibly beautiful polish. I’m a real sucker for iridescence and multi-dimensional colours so this one ticks all the boxes. A really unusual colour too. Gorgeous pictures as usual. 😀

  16. Pinkpamalamma says:

    Ooh how gorgeous!

  17. Gorgeous color! I haven’t tried any Illamasqua makeup yet & this could be a nice place to start. So nice that it’s less expensive at The Bay.

    • Eugenia says:

The entire line is less expensive through The Bay and even if you don’t have a flagship store with an in-house Illamasqua boutique near you, take it from me: all of this brand’s products are so well made — you can’t go wrong with anything!

  18. Vienne says:

So glad you got your hands on this one! It’s SO lovely and unique. I wanted to order it (and the elusive Gothiqua!) from The Bay but sadly they don’t ship outside of Canada so I’ve been crossing my fingers it would show up *somewhere* in the US. It popped up on Bloomingdales website this weekend and I managed to snag one…and they’ve already sold out! Beautiful swatches. I can’t wait for mine to arrive 🙂

    • Eugenia says:

Good for you on your keen eye & speedy purchase – you will absolutely LOVE Facet, I’m sure! As to Gothiqua, while I hate the fact that it was so exclusive (it always makes me sad when an item is exclusive to a particular store/city/country – means the rest of us beauty addicts can’t access it), and while it is very beautiful with Illamasqua’s flawless formula, be comforted in the fact that the applied colour is nowhere near as pretty as what the bottle shows – I haven’t had a chance to look for duplicates yet, but I’m sure there are several out there that come close to Gothiqua’s overall tone.

      • Vienne says:

Truth be told my “keen eye” was really more like obsessive refreshing of the sacred hour collection web page on bloomies (beauty addict, helloooo) 😉 But it paid off! Regarding a Gothiqua dupe, I have seen some compare it to Julep Ciara. I’ve never tried Julep polishes and it looks like Ciara has a lot more blue shimmer. But definitely a contender. I’ve been eyeing Tom Ford Viper and I already have YSL Premiere Neige, so I’ve been thinking that combo might be a nice alternative (although Viper’s darker). Thanks again for all of your lovely swatches!

      • Eugenia says:

Here’s the thing: I don’t own any Julep or Tom Ford polishes (although I am planning on diving into the TF range quite soon), so I couldn’t say about the comparison. As to being a beauty addict, you’re in good company, lol!

What are your thoughts, beautiful?
