Apart from the quality of materials used, something that impresses me about luxury skincare is the amount of solid R&D behind each formulation. And while the fancy packaging may be lovely, I’m more interested in the main event: performance. Over the years I’ve tried a few products from Lancôme’s Absolue range and I’ve been always wowed, so when I attended a virtual skincare seminar on The Serum, the brand’s latest from the range, and which also happens to be the perfect companion to the Rich Cream, I couldn’t wait to try both out. Then there’s the divine rose fragrance …
Prior to the virtual event, I was given the option to select the moisturizer which best suited my skin, and I chose the Rich Cream version (winter = major skin dehydration). Also included was a refill to the cream, a mindful touch from this brand that I really appreciate.
Absolue The Serum (CAN $290.00/30 ml) | Housed in an elegant cylindrical ombré golden glass outer tube, the contents are also refillable (via an insert) — something I appreciate, as the refill is not only more cost effective helps in reducing waste. Inspired by ‘Longevity Science‘, the formula contains “millions of Regenerative Perpetual Rose Molecular FractionsTM, that are clinically proven to accelerate cell renewal to promote healthy skin“. Excellent for all skin types — even sensitive, this serum is meant to be used both morning and night and with continued use you engage a two-pronged outcome: a Pro-Active action to help start optimizing your skin’s health, and a Corrective Action to help maintain that effect. Clinically proven results are said to provide visible plumpness, smoothness, and radiance — all of which are high on my priority list. Patented Pro-Xylane visibly diminishes the appearance of lines and wrinkles for anti-aging benefits by visibly plumping and redensifying skin. Perpetual Rose Molecular Factions™ are clinically proven to accelerate cell renewal in order to promote healthy skin using 100% organic-certified Perpetual Rose (a breed that has been created specifically for Lancôme) and is extracted with patented Green Science Technology:
- Less water
- Green solvents (done without petri-chemical solvents)
- Less bio-waste
The texture is lush yet still lightweight and absorbs quickly into the skin, but it’s the fragrance that has me totally captivated: a soft and almost ethereal rose. The eco-designed bottle is made with 40% recycled glass, 63% less plastic, and the outer packaging uses 37% less cardboard — big steps for a luxury brand, although I personally hope they could even consider eliminating even the exterior packaging at some point.
Refill: CAN $245.00
Absolue Rich Cream (CAN $270.00) | Housed in a refillable rose gold glass jar, this cream is the richer of two options available and while suitable for all skin types, it’s primarily targeted to help with dehydration/dry complexions. Infused with Grand Rose Extracts (a species created just for Lancôme), the regenerative properties are said to show benefits after 3 weeks of use, leaving skin nurtured, soothed, plumped, and with fine lines visibly diminished. The texture is incredibly lush and velvety rich, with a little going a long way. Meant to be applied as a last step in your regimen, it’s best to warm up the cream slightly between your fingertips before applying it to your skin.
Refill: CAN $212.00
As I get older & thanks to menopause, my skin needs more and more hydration. Factor in the extreme cold temps we get here in winter, and my skin becomes the Sahara so when a product delivers deep and lasting moisture like this duo does, I’m all in. Pricey? You bet, but if the results are there, then it’s definitely worth it (for me). Plus both products are refillable, so you do get to save on that. Plus plus, I’ve seen even better savings (online) on Black Friday/Cyber Monday/Christmas and many other holidays — something worth noting.
