Lise Watier x Les Grands Ballets Canadiens | Arabesque Collection Preview & A Special Performance

Lise Watier x Grands Ballets opener

This past week, I had the pleasure of attending a very special event, a collaboration between Canadian cosmetics powerhouse Lise Watier and one of the world’s premier dance companies, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens in an event that combined two of my passions: beauty & culture, both under one roof.

Taking place at Studio C where the dancers have their school and practice for all upcoming shows, we were treated to a preview of Lise Watier’s Holiday 2016 Collection aptly titled Arabesque, which draws on the elegance and utter grace of the ballet. In attendance was David Vincent, International Makeup Artist for the brand, to explain his vision for the collection that was inspired by such well-known ballets as Coppélia as well as famed American dancer, Isadora Duncan.

We were then led down the hall to yet another studio where we were allowed to sit in on a practice of the balcony scene from Romeo & Juliet, the upcoming production that will run at Montréal’s Place des Arts from October 13-28. To say it was enthralling, would be the understatement of the year; I personally was spellbound and completely transfixed watching the incredible detail of song & movement taking shape before my eyes, not 10 feet from where I sat.

Heading back to Studio C, we found a lovely lunch buffet waiting for us and we were then able to chill with glasses of pink champagne in hand while in the company of Ivan Cavallari who is the recently appointed Artistic Director for Les Grands Ballets (he will officially take over early next year) as well as several dancers that came out to join us (still in their practice leotards – how cool was that?!). It was a day I’ll treasure for years to come – as much for the privilege of this rare behind-the-scenes look as for the exquisite Arabesque Collection itself.

A huge thank you to Lise Watier & Les Grands Ballets Canadiens

The Arabesque Collection with its baroque scrollwork detailing on the packaging, features so many ethereal pieces, it was almost impossible to pick out a favourite: a two-toned blush with a pattern reminiscent of a beautiful ceiling medallion, 2 eyeshadow palettes with stunning colours in both cool & warm tones, a multi-chromatic nail polish that has fairy dust written all over it, and a highlighter trio that made me weak at the knees — to name but a few. Enjoy the sneak peeks!
