L’Occitane en Provence ‘Rosée du Matin Exfoliating Gel’ NEW! (trial & review)

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized the importance of regular skincare – which begins with proper exfoliating and cleansing. The biggest issues with ageing skin, seems to be a loss of radiance and firmness, traits that were there in abundance years earlier. The culprit? Two things: 1) a lack of hydration – both internal & external, and 2) not enough exfoliation to properly remove the surface layer of depleted skin cells. L’Occitane en Provence’s  new ‘Rosée du Matin Exfoliating Gel’ was created to assist in giving back some of what time has taken away, and I for one sure welcome any help that comes my way!

‘Rosée du Matin Exfoliating Gel’ is one of 3 new products added to L’Occitane en Provence’s “Angelica” skincare range (the others being the ‘Instant Hydration Mask’ and the ‘Hydration Face Mist’). According to the company:

“There are little things you can do for your skin that make a big difference. Every woman dreams of that morning glow – plump, dewy skin and a radiant complexion. And the key to that is HYDRATION. Injecting moisture into your skin is not only an absolute necessity, it is also the key function of the new Angelica range, which combines organic angelica water and essential oils to rehydrate and revitalize the skin with long-lasting results”

There are many benefits to exfoliation, but you need to be aware that not all products are created equal; the skin of your face is significantly more delicate than say, that of your back, and so while you want to slough off any dead skin cells that accumulate, you want to do this in a way that is gentle, effective and provides  optimum results.

The texture of ‘Rosée du Matin’ was something of a surprise; the pale celadon green gel appears light & fluffy, almost “whipped” (think merengue frosting, not mousse), and you can see the little exfoliating “lumps” in the product, although in reality these beads feel soft and almost cushiony, not harsh or abrasive. The scent is fresh & green, almost citrusy and exceptionally pleasant which does not linger once you’ve rinsed it off.

In approximately 30 seconds (which is how long you should actually massage this gel into your skin – always using your fingertips and in a circular motion), you can restore immediate radiance while boosting microcirculation; the effectiveness of this facial scrub can also be used:

  • first thing in the morning, especially after a late night
  • early evening to refresh the skin before applying makeup
  • before bed to gently remove dead skin cells & impurities
  • to prepare your skin for a face mask application or any other treatment

Apart from the organic and natural ingredients & botanicals, as well as the organic essential oils that comprise the bulk of ‘Rosée du Matin’, the spherical microbeads themselves are made from plant-gums and extracts of organic angelica from the Drôme region of France – nothing processed or artificially manufactured.

Another plus in my opinion, is how light this feels and how my skin felt afterwards; clean without that dreaded “tight” sensation, downy soft and I swear that my complexion looked several shades brighter. A gentle exfoliant such as ‘Rosée du Matin’ is also perfect for the man in your life, most particularly to prepare the skin pre-shave, and even anyone with blemish or acne-prone skin can reap the benefits that this gentle & natural product can offer, helping to remove oil & dirt-clogging dead cells at the surface level of the skin, without incurring any residual irritation.

Final thoughts: Preparing your skin properly, is key to any other skincare regimen that follows; the first step, naturally, is exfoliation and in that regard, you need to be prudent in your choice of product; abrasive beads can actually do more harm than good and something filled with too many chemicals and additives can possibly seep into your system, as well as turn out to be counter-productive as a result. L’Occitane en Provence is based on the concept of natural and organic products with proven aromatherapeutic qualities, and I can honestly say that I have yet to come across an exfoliating facial product that not only feels so gentle and leaves behind amazing results on my skin, but just smells so darned GOOD!

Available now at all L’Occitane boutiques, the ‘Rosée du Matin Exfoliating Gel’ retails for CDN $32.00/75 ml. Feel free to check out the company’s website for more information and you can also follow them on twitter.
