NARS recently launched the Afterglow Collection for spring 2020 and I openly admit that the packaging had me literally mesmerized — until I opened everything and began having fun with all the gorgeousness found on the inside. By the way, everything is limited edition so … you know the drill.
The PR package also came with an extra WOW factor via this mesh bag (which can also be repurposed to serve as a laundry bag for delicates) and this stunning metallic makeup bag
Afterglow Eyeshadow Palette (CAN $78.00) | The metallic exterior of this palette displays a raised undulating pattern and I’m so here for it — trust NARS to always come out with some seriously artistic detailing. With a full sized mirror on the inner lid, it contains 12 new eyeshadow shades in a mix of matte, satin shimmer, and metallic/glitter and all display excellent pigmentation and an effortless blendability. Definitely warmer leaning overall, there are still at least 6 shades (the pinks and paler hues) that can work beautifully on those with cooler complexions. I also appreciate that several shades are multi-purpose and can even double as highlighters, blush, or bronzer (in a pinch). Staying power over primer is bang-on, staying true without creasing or fading.
- First Taste – shimmering pale gold
- Shadow Hill – matte saddle
- Hot Line – metallic tangerine
- Whipped – matte warm brown
- Crushed – matte apricot
- Mad Love – matte peach
- Push It – iridescent golden pink
- Riding High – shimmering rose
- Bayadere I – sparkling bronze
- Trouble – shimmering coral
- Deep Cut – metallic fuchsia
- Guayaquil – bright metallic rust
Afterglow Lip Balm (CAN $37.00/each) | Housed in coloured metallic packaging depicting the shade found on the inside, these are lip balms with a sheer pop of colour. Interestingly, there are six shades showing available at Sephora while the NARS website lists 2 more. The formula includes the brand’s Monoï Hydrating Complex that has a blend of antioxidants and is there to provide moisture plus protection against environmental aggressors. As these are balms, it goes without saying that reapplication will be needed, but who cares when they look so pretty?! The best part though is the ultra comforting feel they impart even after most of the product has gone.
- Fast Lane – sheer mauve nude
- Deep Throat – sheer pink with shimmer
- Turbo – sheer cherry red
The collection also includes a blush/highlighter palette — not shown, but which I’m seriously thinking about, especially since I’ve been a longtime fan of NARS ‘ blushes and highlighters. As someone who is obsessed with lip balms, I’m actually really impressed with not only how lovely these look applied, but how well they perform — I’m thinking that it might even be worth checking the other shades out. And even though I have a bajillion eyeshadow palettes, I’m really into the colour selection of this one .. so much so that I’ve already made quite a dent in several of the shades. My final thoughts? Definitely a winner of a collection.
