NARS · Highlighting Bronzing Collection Summer 2017

NARS is kicking off the season with a bang; introducing the Highlighting Bronzing Collection for Summer 2017, consisting of the Bord de Plage Palette and three new Velvet Shadow Stick shades. I don’t know about you, but looking at this group has me thinking that all I need add is a quick swipe of mascara and some lip balm, and BAM — Summer look mastered. PS: I wouldn’t say no to a beach thrown in as well …

Bord de Plage Palette, limited edition (CAN $72.00) | Displaying a swirled bronzed pattern on the outer lid, this palette holds 6 hues: 4 Water-Activated highlighters and 2 Sun Wash Diffusing bronzers. First seen in the Banc de Sable Highlighting Palette (limited edition & no longer available), these highlighters work with the skin’s surface, bearing a finely-milled texture which can be worn either dry for an iridescent sheen or applied with a dampened brush for a high-intensity and almost metallic-looking glow. Both bronzers are in the the brand’s new Sun Wash Diffusing format (also available individually, reviewed here) and are made with Soft Blurring Technology for a soft-focus effect upon the skin. Totally weightless and with a silky smooth application, they blend easily and help give the appearance of natural sun-warmed skin. By the way, you can also customize both your glow and your bronzer hue by mixing & matching any of these shades, or layering them together for a multi-dimensional tone. BONUS: no oxidation (i.e.: they won’t turn muddy or orange throughout the wearing).

  • Rivage – glistening pearl (previously released in the Banc de Sable palette)
  • Crique – pale gold shimmer
  • Laguna – Medium 1, brown with golden shimmer
  • Corniche – soft pink shimmer
  • Galet – golden bronze shimmer
  • Casino – Medium 2, deep brown with golden shimmer

Velvet Shadow Stick (CAN $35.00/each) | Once warmer weather hits, I’m all about effortless makeup that also travel wells, and NARS’ Velvet Shadow Sticks totally meet those criteria. Housed in a twist-up format (my fave — much more hygienic), they apply with an ultra-smooth gliding texture and can be worn either solo or under powder eyeshadow for added depth of tone. If planning on blending them out, I suggest working one eye at a time as once they set, it’ll be for the long haul. If your lids tend to lean on the oily side, do layer on primer first.

  • Corfu – shimmering taupe
  • Dark Angel – brown, satin/matte
  • Nepal – nude pink, satin/matte

I fell pretty hard for NARS’ Banc de Sable palette and even with an army of highlighters at my disposal, it’s still the one I reach for the most – the application of each shade is THAT good and I love that I can dial up the gleam factor if I’m in the mood to (and in case you’re wondering, even worn dampened, the finish never comes off as garish), so I was very happy to see the three new & totally wearable shades in the Bord de Plage palette. My very first bronzer ever was Laguna and while it may still be a cult-fave worldwide, the new Sun Wash Diffusing version has totally taken the bronzing game to a whole new level with its new featherlight texture and you-skin-but-better-and warmer type of finish — again, smart move on NARS’ part to include their two best-selling shades here. As to the Velvet Shadow Sticks? I’ll break it down this way: easy-peasy eyeshadow which needs only fingers for application. And….done.
