I’m a sucker for anything that reminds me of the beach, so when Nest Fragrances launched their Summer ‘Scape Collection of tropically-inspired candles and reed diffusers, I went absolutely nuts. Ok, maybe that’s a bit extreme, but the happy dance I performed when the Pineapple & Driftwood duo arrived was 100% real. Maybe a little embarrassing, but still real.
When packaging is this artful, I have a really hard time parting with it — thankfully the design is also carried over to the products.
Pineapple & Driftwood Classic Candle, limited edition (CAN $60.00) | Housed in a vividly decorated ceramic vessel featuring artwork inspired by “indigenous designers” (although I’m not sure which designer or from where), the candle is made with a proprietary formula of ingredients, usually consisting of a food-grade paraffin wax base and occasionally other FDA-approved waxes included to optimize burn time. The heady tropical fragrance includes notes of pineapple and juicy white nectarine, blended with a hint of jasmine and warm driftwood, while burn time is said to be between 50-60 hours.
First of all, I have to say how lovely the ceramic container is and what’s more, I’ll be definitely putting it to good use as a makeup brush holder –once the candle has burned down. Now about the fragrance: it’s unbelievably good, neither too cloying and/or overpowering, nor too sugary sweet … just the right balance, in fact. Yummy, tropical, soothing, and most definitely all things Summer contained right here.
Pineapple & Driftwood Reed Diffuser, limited edition (CAN $68.00) | Housed in a similar decorated ceramic vessel, it also comes complete with the reeds and fragranced liquid. The scent is the same fruity/tropical mix of pineapple, nectarine, jasmine and driftwood and is a wonderful accompaniment to the candle, although it stands alone beautifully as well. The formula releases the fragrance slowly and evenly and is said to last about 90 days — just be sure to rotate the reeds every now and then, for a fresh and even disbursal.
TIP: for a lighter fragrant touch, use between 1-2 reeds and a smaller amount of liquid. The more reeds and liquid you add, the stronger the scent will be.
Interestingly, this collection launched on my birthday (July 10th) so you can say this duo was meant to be mine. There are 2 other limited edition fragrances in this collection: Coconut & Palm (which I’m seriously planning on picking up because, coconut) as well as Hibiscus & Dragonfruit (which sounds appealing, but I’m more of a coconut/pineapple kind of girl) and considering what you get quantity-wise with both the Pineapple & Driftwood Candle and the Reed Diffuser, I’d say they’re very well priced, indeed. Who needs a vay-cay, when you can just close your eyes, inhale the tropical vibe, and literally imagine yourself beachside — no passport required, thank you very much!
