New Beauty: Givenchy Holiday 2020 Collection

The festive season is upon us and even though the current pandemic has altered how we’ll be celebrating, that doesn’t mean you still can’t go all out — and Givenchy’s Holiday 2020 Collection is an absolutely glam and much needed pick-me-up. Of course, the exquisite package doesn’t hurt the cause either …

Inspired by Hubert de Givenchy’s star-driven aspirations, Nicolas Degennes, Givenchy’s Creative Director of Makeup — pays tribute with this celestial collection that showcases the interplay of shadow & light … with classic red touches thrown in, naturally.

Black to Light Palette, limited edition (CAN $66.00) | The brand’s iconic case with the 4-G logo has been given a new look via a stunning star-studded lid. Opened up, you’ll find a full sized mirror on the inside and three star-shaped hues to play with. The high performance formula contains varying sizes of mother-of-pearl which help capture light, while the smooth texture makes blending a breeze. The large pearly white star can be worn solo, applied over other shades (Nicolas Degennes recommends layering it over a black eye pencil for a unique new effect), or even doubled as a highlighter along the high points of the face. The silver star also has a pearly/metallic finish, while the anthracite star is said to have a matte finish, but I still see a subtle complex shimmer. The shades can be combined or even applied with a dampened brush for a stronger colour payoff. Staying power over primer is excellent, staying true without flaking or fading.

Available at Holt Renfrew & Sephora

Sparkling Night L’Interdit Lip Top Coat, limited edition (CAN $38.00) | Housed in a transparent tube, this gloss comes with a pointed brush applicator for precision application. Formulated with nourishing black rose oil, the unique greyish base is jam packed with gold and pink microfine shimmer that lays down smoothly without any gritty feel upon the lips. Beautiful alone, this can also be layered over lipstick for an added je ne sais quois. Personally, I’m all about these types of fairy-like shades and intend to wear the heck out of it (I’m also already planning on getting a back up).

Available at Sephora

Le Rouge Deep Velvet N° 37 Rouge Grainé, limited edition (CAN $49.00) | Said to provide up to 12 hours of continuous wear, this is an eye-stopping and killer GORGEOUS red shade in a formula that feels absolutely luxurious. The finish is a lush velvet matte that leaves lips feeling nourished throughout wear, finally fading to a nice rose stain. Oh, and the colour saturation? Off the charts — fully opaque from the very first swipe.

Available at Holt Renfrew

Le Rouge N° 500 Enigmatic Red, limited edition (CAN $49.00) | With the same long-lasting finish as the previous shade, this burgundy-red hue has subtle plum shimmer for added depth & drama. The formula is absolutely amazing, highly pigmented and with an ultra nourishing feel, fading to a light berry stain when the majority of colour has gone. TIP: lightly blotting lips after application lessens the opacity for an effortlessly wearable look.

Available at Holt Renfrew & Sephora

N° 3 Voile Rosé Prisme Libre, limited edition (CAN $72.00) | The brand’s iconic face/setting powder has been given a sparkly new “dress”, while the contents have been jazzed up via soft rose shades — colours that are known to aid in adding brightness to the skin. The formula contains Vitamin E for antioxidant protection, while the finely milled gossamer texture works to prevent it from settling into fine lines. One of the key benefits to using this powder is the soft-blurring effect it provides, helping to minimize the appearance of pores and skin imperfections (in a subtle way, mind you) and all that with an utterly weightless feel. The four shades include 2 for colour correcting and 2 for radiance, all working harmoniously together. Trying to accurately describe how this looks on the skin is rather frustrating, as it needs to be tried & seen in person, but let’s just say that the effect it imparts is one that will have people saying how good your skin looks (as my husband does with me whenever I wear it).

Holiday collections can often be rather, well … too “holiday-ish” but I feel that this Givenchy collection manages to strike just the right balance between festive, fun, and sophisticated. I also appreciate that the brand puts in as much thought to the packaging as to the formulations and honestly, you can’t go wrong with any one of these pieces. So whether you’re shopping for yourself or looking for an early Christmas gift, better jump all over these … before they’re gone.
