The latest addition to CHANEL’s Coco Mademoiselle range is L’Eau Privée Night Fragrance, a toned down version of the original and created to feel more like an intimate caress along the skin. Sounds pretty sexy, no? Trust me: it’s all that … and more.
Kiera Knightley, the face of Coco Mademoiselle
Coco Mademoiselle L’Eau Privée Night Fragrance (CAN $146.00/100 ml) | Housed in the brand’s instantly recognizable squared-off bottle and iconic stopper, this version comes in frosted glass to give a glimpse of the juice inside, while still maintaining an aura of mystery. Created by Olivier Polge, CHANEL’s In-House Perfumer Creator, the signature of this fragrance has been dimmed somewhat from the original, and adapted to feel more confidential … wispy, as a secret shared.
“L’Eau Privée, a light and delicate version of Coco Mademoiselle, is a fragrance for night, like a watercolour or a soft, hazy veil for the skin and sheets” (Olivier Polge)
The original citrus-floral-musky accord has been tweaked; the woody notes have been toned down to bring out the sparkling freshness of the orange, there is a delicate weaving of both rose and jasmine, and the musky notes now quietly envelop the white tones. The familiar original fragrance has now effectively been diffused, and truly represents the intended watercolour effect of its creator. But what does this all mean?
In my humble opinion, this basically means that L’Eau Privée is a fragrance that you can certainly wear during the day, but even better, you can wear this before bed without fear of becoming overpowered by anything cloying. There is a light citrusy vibe at the initial spritzing but that quickly evolves into something cozy and snuggly — yet still undeniably sexy; picture yourself wearing nothing but your favourite much-loved tee, and you’ll get the effect I’m aiming for. The dry down is one I love: soft warm skin and as whispery as a memory. As to staying power, that will depend on your body’s chemistry but on me, I found it to last several hours which becomes even better with wear.
A little gathering of Coco Mademoiselle
I’ve mentioned in several CHANEL fragrance posts I’ve written in the past, that some of this brand’s scents just don’t play well with me (hello, the original N°5 — but I still have faith that one day we’ll get our act together) and while I do enjoy the original Coco Mademoiselle, I confess it’s not one I reach for all that much. But L’Eau Privée? GOOD LORD! This is one I haven’t stopped spraying since the moment it arrived. It’s yummy and delectable and you definitely need to try it. That’s all.
