In 1980, the CHANEL Makeup Creation Studio developed Joues Contraste blush, and since then has gone on to create more than 140 shades; 40 years later, this formula is still considered one of the best in the biz. For 2020, the brand has launched 3 of their most iconic hues in limited edition packaging to celebrate this milestone … and much like the blushes themselves, it’s absolutely irresistible.
I confess to being an absolute sucker for unique packaging, and I’m so totally down for the burgundy touches on both the outer boxes, as well as the iconic Double C’s on the compacts.
Joues Contraste, limited edition (CAN $55.00/each) | Housed in the brand’s iconic black lacquered compacts, these limited edition versions come with the Double C logo done in burgundy (such a gorg touch). The soft and silky texture is just magical: beautifully pigmented and able to blend out easily, leaving behind a subtle sheen that gives a nice radiance to the skin. They all bear the signature rose accord fragrance, but it’s delicate enough that it doesn’t detract from the product, dissipating quickly after application. Staying power over primer and/or foundation is excellent, staying true without fading.
71 Malice | a pink coral hue with a subtle sheen — and possibly my new favourite colour from the range. Even though it leans overall warm, the pink undertone in the base makes it also easily wearable by those with cooler complexions.
320 Rouge Profond | a warm red hue with a subtle sheen. I have a long-standing love affair with the colour red, and I was fortunate enough to pick up CHANEL’s original red blush from the limited edition Byzantine Collection released several years ago. In comparison, Rouge Profond is a just a hint lighter, but no less stunning. For anyone wondering how wearable a strong red shade like this can be, just remember: our skin blushes red, so this is in fact the most natural looking colour anyone can sport — just go easy with it & blend, blend, blend.
330 Rose Pétillant* | The only limited edition shade of the three, this is a strong pink hue with soft shimmery flecks. From the colour seen in the pan, I actually wasn’t expecting the shade to be as intensely pigmented, but it’s a welcome surprise. Somehow managing to sport both cool & warm tones, this shade just might be one of the most wearable pinks I’ve come across and while beautiful on its own, it can also be layered over another blush along the higher points of the cheeks for an almost highlighted effect.
I am a HUGE fan of the Joues Contraste blush formula and despite the multitude of other powder blushes in my stash, I definitely reach for these the most. Why? Because they apply like a dream and provide my skin with that perfect “I was born with these naturally glowy cheeks” effect. Add to that the cachet of this limited edition packaging, and I’m an absolute goner. In other words, get ’em while you can, my beauties.
