Urban Decay · Beached Eyeshadow Palette

I may love the rich colours of Fall/Winter beauty, but my heart belongs to Summer collections — even more so when they happen to be surf-themed. Which is probably why when Urban Decay’s Beached Eyeshadow Palette arrived, I figuratively + literally dove in and next thing I knew, I was dreaming about sand, sun, & Piña Coladas. Actually, it’s closer to the truth to say I immediately went online and started planning my next vay-cay (I’ll even take a virtual beach at this point …)

Following the success of last year’s Beached Bronzers (permanent), Urban Decay has expanded the collection to include the palette shown in today’s post, along with new lipsticks and eyeliners (both limited edition) —  all coming up in a future post.

This is where I want to be 24/7

Beached Eyeshadow Palette, limited edition (CAN $49.00) | Housed in a sturdy cardboard casing with a sun-bleached look and loads of pretty palm trees, the inside lid bears a full-sized mirror but does not include a brush — which works perfectly for me, as I prefer using my own brushes anyway. The 8 new shades are all infused with the brand’s proprietary Pigment Infusion System™ which ensures a smooth blendability, excellent pigmentation, and colour that holds (especially when applied over primer).

There’s only 1 matte shade in the entire palette (Daybreak), but interestingly I found that it was quite enough as there’s a good mix of vivid metallics, shimmers, and even softer satin shimmers to help in creating a variety of looks. Texture-wise, one word comes to mind: PERFECTION. Seriously, my swatch does NOT do them justice, as seeing the complexity of each hue in person is way more impressive. With an almost creamy feel (both to the touch and the way they lay down), blending is effortless and you can even layer shades to create new combos and intensities i.e.: Double Dip over Plunge = a mesmerizing oceanic effect. And that’s just for starters …

  • Salt – oyster shimmer
  • Blaze – peach with metallic shift
  • Heatwave – red copper metallic
  • Daybreak – matte brick
  • 16th St. – metallic golden bronze
  • Double Dip – shimmering aqua
  • Plunge – metallic turquoise
  • Wedge – deep copper

The beach is my spirit animal and while I can go on & on, it basically boils down to this: the Beached Eyeshadow Palette is a 100% MUST. From the packaging, to the shade selection, and the quality of each eyeshadow, there is nothing I don’t absolutely love about this palette — oh, and the decent price tag only makes it sweeter. Therefore, grab it while you can to avoid any regrets. The only thing left now is to get myself to an actual beach …
