YSL · Shimmer Rush Multi-Palette Spring 2019 & Couture Contouring Palette

For Spring 2019, YSL Beauty is serving up rosy freshness, perfectly captured with the Shimmer Rush Multi-Palette — brilliant hues that are just the thing to shake off the last bits of Winter. Oh, and for the record, I may have spent more time than usual admiring the outer case … can you blame me?

Just 3 of the many facets of this gorgeous case

Shimmer Rush Multi-Palette, limited edition (CAN $70.00) | Housed in a slim-profile gold metal case with a prismatic outer over as well as a full-sized mirror on the inner lid, this palette includes a dual-ended brush for touch-ups on the go. The six shades are divided into 4 eyeshadows and 2 for cheeks/lips, although all can be worn along eyes. To be perfectly honest, I can’t really see myself wearing the 2 pink shades on my lips but they do work beautifully along the cheeks. As seen in the swatch below, 5 of the hues contain complex shimmer of the flat-laying variety that beautifully captures the light. All display good pigmentation, blend easily, and have solid staying power when worn over primer.

N° 01 Golden Contouring Couture Contouring Palette (CAN $65.00) | Available in 2 shades (N° 02 Rosy Contouring, not shown – created for those with fairer complexions & pink undertones), this duo contains one matte contouring hue and one soft-shimmer highlighting shade. The version I received was created for those with golden undertones and will suit light to medium complexions. The creamy powder texture of the contour powder is exceptionally fine milled and blends effortlessly into the skin, while the highlighter adds gleam without being over the top. I didn’t pull out my Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow (light) palette to compare, the shades in Golden Contouring really appear to be similar — both in tone and in the effect they impart.

When I first laid eyes on the Shimmer Rush Multi-Palette, I was immediately fascinated by the exquisite casing, but I admit that the shades threw me a curveball; I may love all things shimmery, but neutrals are my comfort zone so I wondered if I would actually wear this jewel-toned grouping. Here’s the surprise: all are actually quite wearable — even for daytime — by applying them in a more sheered out manner, making for the prettiest shimmery watercolour effect that also serves to brighten the entire eye area. As to the contour powder, while I don’t often go for a sculpted look, I’ve repurposed this shade to serve as a bronzer (matte is best for a more realistic effect), while the highlighter is spot-on gorgeous. Both may be priced on the steeper end of the spectrum, they definitely deliver — and that’s always a good thing in my book.
