Guerlain · Abeille Royale Scalp & Hair Youth Oil-In-Serum

Guerlain recently added to the Abeille Royale family with the new Scalp & Hair Oil-in-Serum, marking this as the brand’s first foray into hair care. Filled with all the nourishing benefits of honey, this serum aims to give as much love to your hair as the rest of the range does for your skin — and I’m totally on board with that.

Abeille Royale Scalp & Hair Oil-In-Serum (CAN $194.00/50 ml, 1.6 fl oz) | Housed in the same bottle as my much-loved Advanced Youth Watery Oil (previewed here) and dispensed via a dropper, the glass here is a gorgeous ombré colour. The formula contains a complex with D-Panthenol, a key ingredient for maintaining hair health and [according to the brand]:

“Concentrated in Dynamic Blackbee Repair technology and enriched with black bee honey from Ouessant Island, Youth Oil-in-Serum triples the scalp’s vitality and increases the hair fibre’s resistance fivefold for a 55% visibly thicker hair. Its non-greasy texture composed of 97% naturally-derived ingredients can be used daily on dry or damp hair”

Smelling as lovely as the rest of the Abeille Royale range, there’s somewhat of a learning curve in using this product, but quite simple to work with once you’ve gotten the hang of it. I initially tried adding dropper-fulls along various areas of my scalp, but that didn’t work out so well. Instead, I found that the easiest and most effective way of spreading this, is by “dotting” all over the scalp; 2 dropper-fulls should be enough for the job, depending on how thick your hair is to begin with (you can always add more if needed). I apply this serum about every second shower to freshly washed towel-dried hair, massage it in using my fingertips in a circular motion, and coming my hair out afterwards to ensure the product has reached the ends as well. That said, I also like using this on dried hair — especially along the ends, which makes my hair look insanely healthier (as in, no “crispiness”).

I’m fortunate to have inherited excellent hair genes from my parents, and while my hair is naturally quite dense and healthy (each hair is actually on the thin side, but I happen to have a ton), I also colour my hair a high-lift blonde (without any bleach, thank you very much) — all of which means that I baby it like mad to ensure it continues to stay in optimum shape. So while I don’t have any issues with ‘thickness or density’, what I do like is how this serum works on maintaining scalp health, while also adding a wonderful and much-needed level of protection all over my hair. Since I began using it, I have noticed that my hair just looks and feels better in general, and when used on my ends (when dry), everything just seems to behave better. On another note, when I do use this along my scalp (as opposed to ends only), I prefer applying it in the evening and allowing it to fully work its magic overnight.

the ‘gang’ …

Guerlain is a brand that I’ve loved for years and apart from the luxe factor + stunning details/packaging, the main reason I remain loyal is because the products deliver. The fact that this is the first luxury brand to not only provide traceability on ingredients, but to also move the House forward in a more sustainable and environmentally sound manner, is just the icing on the cake. My verdict on this hair serum: it’s a worthy addition to the range and if you’re looking to improve your hair health or just want to maintain your mane in excellent condition, this is definitely an option you’ll want to look into.
