For Fall 2022, Guerlain looks to nature for inspiration and has created the Ombres G Collection. With rich eyeshadow palettes, luminous lipsticks and breathtaking cases, along with a red carpet-worthy mascara, this capsule collection is utterly captivating … not to mention looking more like art, than beauty.

As someone who tends to take a ton of notes, this butterfly themed notebook the brand included will come in very handy — I always appreciate useful perks such as this.

Ombres G Eyeshadow Quad in 214 Exotic Orchid (CAN $95.00) | Taking cues from the splendour of nature, there are 6 colour harmonies available to choose from, and I am so thrilled with the one I received, as it’s definitely the one I would have selected for myself. Housed in a luxuriously hefty gold compact that snaps open and includes a full sized mirror on the inner lid, there are four finishes in each palette: satin, matte, metallic and iridescent but I find that that might also depend on which grouping you select. Exotic Orchid appears to lean more towards a gorgeous satin finish overall — plus one sparkly hue. The formula contains Winter Rose Oil to help provide a comfortable feel throughout wear, with each shade being incredibly pigmented for long-lasting colour and depth of tone. The texture is buttery smooth and not only can be applied opaquely with the first swipe, but can be very easily blended or even sheered out, depending on the effect you’re going for. When worn over primer, the colours stay true until removed.
Shades clockwise from bottom left:
- bordeaux, luminous satin
- plummy taupe, satin
- camel, satin matte
- bright gold, iridescent sparkle
Noir G Volumizing & Curling Mascara (CAN $46.00) | As a self-professed mascara aficionado, I couldn’t wait to try this one out and I have to admit that Guerlain has never let me down when it comes to lashes. Housed in a luxuriously hefty golden tube with the brand’s iconic double G logo embossed in black on the cap, this is said to provide up to 24H wear (I’ll never intentionally wear mascara that long, but it’s good to know that it’ll last when you need it to) and can provide amazing volume and curl. Sounds right up my alley so far. Bearing a mix of ‘exceptional ebony and midnight blue pigments for a blacker than black hue‘, I can definitely vouch for the intense black colour this mascara offers. Again, right up my alley. The formula is enriched with Winter Rose Oil to provide comfort throughout wear, meaning your lashes will never feel crunchy or weighed down. But how does it perform? In a word, BRILLIANTLY. The curved brush hugs the lash line easily and not only deposits the perfect amount of product, but helps to separate and comb through lashes as well. One coat displays impressive results; 2 coats basically takes your lashes to a whole new level. From the get-go, this mascara delivers on all counts: an intense black shade, wonderful volume and length, and holds a curl throughout wear. Never leaving smears under the eyes or flaking, it’s also easily removed at the end of the day with a dual-phased makeup remover. Note: this mascara bears a lovely subtle fragrance, which seems to dissipate quickly after application.
Nymph Rose Rouge G Refillable Lipstick Case (CAN $46.00) | There are 3 new Rouge G Lipstick cases created for this collection (limited edition) with patterns inspired by the iridescence of butterfly wings, and all are collector-worthy, in my opinion. You can almost consider these cases a fashion accessory — and definitely something that makes applying lipstick in public an act to look forward to, lol. With a luxurious heft, this particular case has colouring attributed to the Wood Nymph Butterfly, and also comes with a convenient flip-up mirror, to help make the afore-mentioned public application super easy. Another benefit is that you can use this case with any other Rouge G lipstick you currently own (or are now planning on getting).
Rouge G Velvet Metal Lipstick in N° 880 Magnetic Red (CAN $42.00) | This brand new formula in the Rouge G family, combines the intense saturation of matte with the luminosity of a metallic, basically creating a new hybrid-like finish — one that’s both opaque and brilliant. The formula contains mango butter for a nourishing feel and buttery smoothness upon application, while hyaluronic acid spheres provide long-lasting hydration and comfort throughout wear. The shape of the bullet hugs lip contours and makes it easy to reach even narrow areas of the lips. The tone-on-tone shimmer adds to the finish, providing depth and a beautiful lustre. Said to provide up to 16H wear time, this may be long-lasting, but never drying or leaving that desiccated feel behind. Even when the majority of colour has faded, you’re still left with a lovely stain behind.
Available in 6 shades.
There’s one word that describes this collection: EXQUISITE. And despite how stunning each piece is, what impresses me even more is performance, and everything here absolutely delivers. The shades of this palette are so me and I have been really enjoying creating a variety of looks, while the mascara has totally blown me away and may now be my new Holy Grail. As to the lipstick, the Rouge G formula has long been a fave and this new texture is the absolutely best way to wear matte — especially for someone who tends to avoid that finish, as I do. Oh, and can we talk about this case? So gorgeous, am I right?
