I have a special affinity to certain products, whether it’s because there was some event happening in my life at the time that makes them special to me, or simply because they have proven themselves time after time; NARS’ Laguna is one such product, being the very first bronzer I ever used. So how do you improve on an icon? For starters you create a few more shades, give the surface powder a new look, and then add a little magic to the formula and … voilà! Sun Diffusing Bronzer is born.

Brand spanking new for Spring 2017, there are four shades in total available (not shown: Seaside – Light 1 & Falaises – Dark 1) in this bronzer collection to fit pretty much all skin tones along the spectrum. What makes these really stand out, however, is the innovative new formula that bears sheer pigments suspended in Translucent Spherical Powders to work with your natural skin tone, enhancing it with true-to-life colour without any visible shimmer or flat matte feel. Said to be ‘matte’ is a bit misleading, as these bronzers are so much more than that; this ultra fine powder not only blends seamlessly and melds beautiful with your skin’s natural oils and warmth, but also brings a slight soft-focus effect to the table, helping to blur imperfections as well (nothing major, but enough to give that healthy kind of glow). Best part is how well the colour lasts (especially over foundation and/or primer), without showing any signs of oxidation.
Laguna Sun Wash Diffusing Bronzer (CAN $52.00) | A cult-fave for a reason, this neutral shade works on practically every complexion across the board, barring the two extremes: super fair and very dark. Perfect for light to light-medium skin tones.
Casino Sun Wash Diffusing Bronzer (CAN $52.00) | A few degrees deeper than Laguna, this shade may be touted as being perfect for medium complexions, but on my light-medium skin tone this works to give me a rich sun-kissed glow and I suspect will also be the bronzer I’ll be reaching for once my skin takes on some light colour.
I actually wasn’t sure what to expect with these bronzers, but it certainly wasn’t the absolutely silky texture of this powder or the incredibly lightweight feel along the skin. So weightless in fact, that I wasn’t even sure I was applying anything at all — until I stepped back & waited a few minutes for the colour to ‘develop’ then it was all WHOAH! Hello, beautifully glowing skin. I didn’t even bother pulling out any of my other Lagunas (of which I have many, actually) to compare as I could immediately see that there was something way different going on here. Bottom line: if you’re in the market for a bronzer, then do yourself a favour and give these lovelies a spin. Oh, and have your wallet ready.
