New & Tested: Guerlain Kiss Kiss Tender Matte Lipstick

Maybe because of the year we had in 2020 and while the pandemic is still not over, I almost feel like wearing lipstick is a way of capturing the normalcy of before — you know what I mean? So I was quite happy to receive Guerlain’s new KissKiss Tender Matte shades to try, but I’m not going to lie: the gorgeous little box they arrived in had something to with that as well.

I’ve previously mentioned both here and on my Instagram feed (@ommorphia) that in general I’m not a fan of PR mailers, mainly because of the waste & excess involved. That said, some brands — such as Guerlain –have definitely heard and stepped up their game. Committed to Beauty & Eco Responsibility, this box that the lipsticks arrived in has been designed sustainably using recycled wood pallets, solvent-free paint, and recycled matte paper FCS certified (referring to the insert). Not only is it ecologically minded, but can be repurposed as a useful (& glam) storage container.

KissKiss Tender Matte Lipstick (CAN $49.00/each) | Housed in black lacquered casings embossed with the Guerlain logo on the gold cap end and the Guerlain name at the base, these are the latest iteration to join the KissKiss range. The lightweight formula is said to provide up to 16 hours of wear (not that I ever plan on wearing lipstick that long, but it’s nice to know that it has the potential to go that extra mile) and imparts a luminous matte finish aka: more velvety, as opposed to true matte which can come off as flat. Made with three actives: hyaluronic acid, shea butter, and rose petal extract (doesn’t that sound so bougie?!), these ingredients are there to provide comfort and hydration, as well as helping to regenerate lips throughout wear. Beautifully pigmented, they apply opaquely from the first swipe and while they never fully dry down, I was impressed with how well each shade lasted even through eating & drinking. The best part? My lips never felt dry or tight and I also like how each faded to a nice and even stain.

Lipstick lovers, Kiss(Kiss) dry lips goodbye. As a rule, I tend to stick to balms and glosses but lately I’ve taken to wearing lipstick around the house, because God knows I’m not going anywhere (literally) and this small act lifts my spirits. Plus if nothing else, lipstick is a must on Zoom calls — if you want to stand out, that is. That said, Guerlain definitely has a winner with this range and not just because each looks like a little work of art (they do), but because they also happen to deliver both stunning colour and more importantly, comfort. Those features are always a win in my book.
