Benefit · An Erase Case of Boiing Concealers

As someone who very rarely uses concealer (as in basically never), when this Erase Case package filled with Benefit’s updated Boiing range of concealers arrived, I was a) squealing over the utter cuteness of it all and b) wondering how on earth I would review something I don’t really use. After diving in, I came to the realization that there may be something here that even I can “benefit” from … see what I did there? (insert eye roll).

If I were still in school, I would so totally use this pencil-shaped case to well, carry all my writing supplies in. As always, Benefit is untouchable in the kitschy/retro packaging department, case in point: the pink Eberhard eraser-inspired boxes here laying testament to that, am I right?

Boiing Hydrating Concealer (CAN $27.00) | Replacing the previous Fakeup Concealer, these have the most lightweight formula of the group, bearing an outer balm layer which encases the concealer part at the core and are infused with both Vitamin E and Apple Seed extract for continuous hydration. Definitely the most emollient of the bunch, this format has an easy-gliding texture along the skin, although chances are you’ll need to set it with translucent powder to help it last longer. Can also be touched up throughout the wearing or over makeup — just make sure to pat it onto the skin with a fingertip to prevent it from moving around.

Boiing Airbrush Concealer (CAN $27.00) | Brand new in the lineup, the texture of this concealer is creamy enough to glide easily along the skin but has more substance than the Hydrating Concealers and thus gives more coverage. These also provide a soft-focus effect which helps blur away imperfections and detracts from fine lines and/or undereye circles.

Boiing Brightening Concealer (CAN $27.00) | Replacing the previous Erase Paste Brightening Concealer, these all bear a pinkish hue and are meant to provide colour correcting properties while helping to mask discolouration such as undereye circles. The texture is creamy and easy to blend out, making it an excellent option for those with drier skin types (combination/oily complexions may need to set with translucent powder).

Boiing Industrial Strength Concealer (CAN $27.00) | Replacing the original Boiing Concealer and housed in new packaging with a transparent lid, these provide full-strength coverage and are meant for more intensive concealing. The texture is the thickest and least emollient of the group, although can still be blended out effortlessly.

Like I said at the top: I rarely use concealer, primarily because I don’t have undereye circles that need correcting, but I do have fine lines that always end up looking more pronounced when I apply concealer (age, dammit). That said, I found that the Hydrating Concealer gave me sheer-ish coverage without overly emphasizing my lines, although it does have slightly more slip and needs to be set with a light dusting of powder, and the Airbrush Concealer really did manage to blur away my fine lines while also working well to cover up slight discolourations. The only downside I can see is the limited colour range on all, as those on the extreme ends of the spectrum (super fair and deep complexions) will probably find it challenging to find a match — here’s hoping Benefit is listening and adds more shades.
