For Summer 2016, Dior has released three Colour & Dots Manicure Kits (CAN $38.00/each) consisting of 2 complimentary nail lacquer shades complete with a dotting tool and instructions to help you channel your inner nail artist. The best part? No specific skills are actually needed to create your very own mini masterpieces, but I guarantee you’ll have a ton of fun creating.
All 6 nail polish shades come in mini bottle versions in Dior’s absolutely stellar formula, which also happens to be one of my favourites (for those who follow me regularly, you’ve heard me go on countless times about how much I love the Dior formula – it’s seriously one of the best out there). The brush has been downsized as well from the standard size, and while not as bevelled, it still helps the polish apply flawlessly. Each shade has that ‘secret shimmer’ Dior has become known for; the type that may not be initially visible when looking at the bottle but which comes vividly to life when seen in direct light. All are made with Dior’s new gel-effect formula, giving you superior wear with a long-lasting chip free finish and über-glossy shine.
A few tips on using the dotting tool; have a piece of foil – or a disposable hard surface on hand – and after you’ve applied 2 coats of your base shade (let dry for at least 10 minutes), add a small amount of your complimentary shade to your foil. Dip the dotting tool into the polish and with light pressure, add dots to your nails. You need to work fairly quickly because as oxygen mixes with the polish on the foil, it will start to become gummy; when that happens just add a bit more polish to a clean area of your foil and continue dotting. You can vary the size of the dots by picking up less product for smaller shapes and/or applying even lighter pressure. You can also go back in and create a more 3D effect by going over your dots with more polish. As there are so many options and each pattern will come out unique, you’re only limited by your imagination – so go to town!

- 432 – aprico/peach (“apriceach?”) crème, so fresh & summery-looking with a slight translucency at 2 coats (which I actually prefer). Shown: 2 coats (1 coat for dots)

Regardless of how you feel about polka dots, you cannot deny how adorable and fun these manis look. As each kit comes with two shades, you have options galore and if your nail art skills are as limited as mine, you can still create something original because there are no rules – anything goes. Granted, making things easier is the fact that each shade comes in Dior’s magical formula that’s basically goof-proof, but here’s the thing: if I can do this, you can!
