Rescue Beauty Lounge – Housewives of Tudor England ‘Jane’

And finally…..my review on the last shade of this superb collection! When I initially received these colours, I admit to having spent a good chunk of my time simply admiring them, but my eye kept on coming back to ‘Jane’. Even though every brand this season has come out with their own version of taupe and/or nude-beige, Jane still stands out among them all.  In the bottle you can just make out the exceptionally fine particles of gold and pale green shimmer however on the nail it translates into more of a creme look.  Click to view a closeup of the shimmer.

Apart from the neutrality of this colour making it suitable for wearing at any time, it also happens to be so incredibly flattering to your hands. It is that understated  greigey (grey & beige!) shade but what keeps this from being scary are the hints of peach undertones.  In a more daytime light, it has an almost pale mauve caste to it, giving it a warmer more mushroom tone.  Under artificial lighting, it takes on a more grey hue lending it a slightly deeper coolness. Have I used enough colourful metaphors yet?! Seriously, I absolutely am in love with this colour….no wonder it’s already become a best-seller!

Application was excellent and almost self-levelling and from the four in the set, I would say that this shade has the most shine to it. All pictures are with base coat, 2 coats of polish and finished with Seche Vite top coat.  From the diverse selection of shades that Rescue Beauty offers, this one should top your list!

Rescue Beauty Lounge – Housewives of Tudor England ‘Catherine’

May I say how much I love any shade of mauve nail polish? ‘Catherine’, like practically every other mauve/dusky purple nail polish I have ever seen or tried on, seems to have the ability to suit every skin tone. I love the muted aubergine base of this colour and I find that the addition of the very fine multi-tonal shimmer takes it to a whole other level of deep purple.  This polish applied very smoothly as well, and the flow was excellent. In the closeups, the camera has clearly picked up the pink and aqua micro shimmer (although the above picture has somewhat skewed the true colour of this polish) and even to the naked eye, these flecks are apparent.

With the more ‘natural’ lighting, you can clearly see the muted mauve look of this shade, although in more artificial lighting, the shimmer combines to lend it an almost bronzy cast.  I must say that although all pictures are shown with base coat, 2 coats of polish and Seche Vite top coat, even without the final step of a top coat this polish has exceptional shine.

I find that the greyed out but still vibrant look of this shade also seems to have a pearly depth to it which makes it unique among my other deep/dusky purple polishes.  Even with the micro shimmer, it applied flawlessly with no visible brush strokes. Dark polishes are still riding high in popularity and I find that the deep tone of this colour can add an elegant dimension to your manicure (or pedicure too for that matter!).

Rescue Beauty Lounge – Housewives of Tudor England ‘Anne’

The next shade of this collection which I am reviewing here, Anne, is not only the perfect Fall hue, but applied so effortlessly.  I found the consistency & flow of this shade to be slightly thinner than Catherine H. which made it much easier to control the application.  As I noted previously, Rescue Beauty brushes seem to be thinner which I prefer, as you never have to worry about picking up too much product. In the closeups, you can see the shimmery pink and greenish flecks which lend an almost mossy hue to the base.

Seen in natural lighting, the shade is not only seemingly brighter but has an almost greenish cast to it.  It is an excellent alternative to all the dark polishes we’ve been seeing lately, without having a heavy ‘bling’ factor.  Under artificial lighting, there is a deeper bronze hue that comes out, lending it a richness which is perfectly in keeping with the ‘Tudor’ theme of the collection….bring on the brocade & velvets!

Rescue Beauty Lounge – Housewives of Tudor England ‘Catherine H.’

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving everyone!

I know it’s taken me a while to get around to swatching this collection, but better late than never, eh?!……

Catherine H. is a unique blue shade in my collection as I have nothing even remotely close to it.  As much as I love seeing some of the more vibrant shades out there, they always seem more trendy than wearable to me (glitters notwithstanding of course!) but this is one colour that is not only edgy enough for the evening, but can be worn in a more casual daytime setting as well.  The polish applies exceptionally smoothly, and even though it seemed a tad thicker than what I’m used to with other brands, it nonetheless went on effortlessly, possibly as a result of the excellent brush.  I applied 2 coats, although it seemed almost opaque with one.  If you click on the pictures, you can see the pink and aquamarine flecks in this shade which gives Catherine H. its incredible depth. I also decided to try a different topcoat this time around ‘INM Out The Door’ and even though overall it worked decently well, I found that it did not dry the polish nearly as quickly as the Seche Vite I normally use, nor is the shine as brilliant.

Rescue Beauty Lounge Housewives of Tudor England Collection – breakdown

‘Catherine’ is an interesting shade best described as a multi-tonal greyed out aubergine; I know that sounds like a mouthful, but it truly is one of those polishes that seem to change colour every time you move the bottle or your hand around.  There are silver undercurrents running through it and I also see very small micro-particles of green, gold and magenta.  The closest match I could find in my collection that resembles Catherine is Silver Purple by Dior, although the latter has only the silver shimmer running through it.

‘Anne’ is a perfect shade for those who love a darker Fall colour; in the bottle it looks like a dusky olive green with obvious pink and gold shimmer throughout.  On the nail it translates slightly darker, but the shimmer gives it a depth that brings out the jewelled richness of this shade.

It reminds me of those lush brocade fabrics those Elizabethans loved so much!  Among my nail polish collection, the closest matches I could find were NARS Mash which is slightly more greener tinged, and MAC Seriously Hip which has a blacker base and chunkier golden glitter.

‘Catherine H.’ is unique among my collection in that I have nothing that even remotely comes close to this shade.  This one is a dusty denim shade of blue, but the shimmer of  aqua and pink micro-particles tend to alter the colour with movement; one second it’s periwinkle blue, another more lilac.  This amazing colour brings to mind an image of an evening sky, just before darkness comes where the blue and purple meet and create this exquisite twilight shade.  The camera truly cannot capture the intensity and uniqueness of this shade…or at least I can’t photograph it properly!

‘Jane’ as reviewed earlier, is the most “ready-to-wear” of the collection, being a neutral.  It has the distinction of having the most versatility of the four, with a greyed-out mushroomy base, light taupe highlights, a hint of peach to make it less harsh and exceptionally fine gold, green and pink micro-shimmer throughout.

While the shimmer is not obvious on the nail, it does lend an imperceptible depth to this colour and raises it from ho-hum to edgy!  Like Catherine H. above, I apologize for not capturing the essence of this shade better….you should  see the subtle glimmer of it.  See previous entry for swatch.
