Demeter Fragrance Library – Vanilla Cookie Dough & Dark Chocolate

Demeter Fragrances opener

With a selection of over 250 fragrances to choose from, Demeter is absolutely correct in naming their vast collection a “library”; inspired by everyday objects and experiences – ‘Dirt’, anyone? How about ‘Zombie for Her’ and ‘Zombie for Him’? And who wouldn’t want ‘Clean Skin’? – there is nothing common or ordinary about these fragrances, and with such a selection to choose from, I dare you to try and narrow it down to just one favourite!

About Demeter fragrances: 95% natural ingredients, with alcohol naturally fermented from corn, no artificial colours, no pthalates, no binders or emulsifiers, and no extra packaging to discard.

These single note fragrances take their cue from life itself and each scent can either stand alone, be “layered” for longer lasting power (ie: body lotion before the actual scent), and even combined with other Demeter fragrances for a uniquely personal touch. Not meant to be as complex as designer options where you’re basically buying into a specific lifestyle being projected, these are instead focussed on a more personal level, meant to evoke and convey something meaningful to each & every user.

Demeter – Vanilla Cookie Dough & Dark Chocolate

Demeter Vanilla Cookie Dough

Vanilla Cookie Dough (US $20.00 1.0 fl. oz/30 ml) – described as “dense, delicious, full-bodied and without that cloying sweetness that vanilla fragrances can develop”, is exactly that. There’s nothing to distract the nose from the absolutely mouth-watering vanilla cookie-dough scent, and you’re almost tempted to taste it – it’s THAT good! This scent was inspired by Demeter CEO, Mark D. Crame’s 13-year old daughter, who recently discovered the wonders of edible cookie dough (no eggs).

Initially, as with all fragrances, the scent is quite redolent, although it seems to quickly melt into a mellower version as body heat reacts with it. There was no bitterness or bizarre after-scent, and it simply faded away. Worn alone, I can’t say that lasting power is all that long – I got roughly 3 hours before I simply couldn’t detect it any more, but another quick spritz is all it takes for a pick-me-up. buy nootropil online andnewonlineblo.com/nootropil.html no prescription

Demeter Dark Chocolate

Dark Chocolate (US $20.00 1.0 fl.0z/30 ml) – described as “A silky smooth, absolutely sensual and indulgent chocolate fragrance. Deep, rich and exotic”. Definitely. This scent is THE best way to wear chocolate, without physically resorting to slathering the stuff all over your body. Milk chocolate might have come across as too childlike and overly sweet; choosing to emulate dark chocolate, is nothing short of genius in its simplicity and warm luxury.

With a provenance that goes back at least 3000 years from the time this was a bitter drink in pre-historic South America, and the only form of chocolate available until the 19th century when milk was finally added to it, this scent is truly the history of dark chocolate itself.

As with Vanilla Cookie Dough, the initial spraying was very present, but contact with the skin rounds out any rough edges almost immediately. I found lasting power to be a little longer with this scent, but not by a significant stretch of time. I even layered the 2 together, and created a unique & complimentary vanilla-chocolate-cookie-dough scent … totally drool-worthy.

Below is a simple to make and incredibly tasty cookie recipe, provided by Demeter; I’ve already made these cookies twice, and it’s now part of my permanent recipe collection. If oat flour isn’t readily available, do what I did: I purchased organic oats and ground them using a food processor. Depending on your preferences, you could also increase the vanilla to 2 teaspoons, as I did. Final thoughts: When I first came upon Demeter Fragrances, it was a long time ago and when the selection was less than 20 – I used to pick them up and smell them in wonder; they actually smell like what they’re called – no guesswork needed to figure out their inspiration, that’s for sure. For the times when I’m looking to wear something simple, these single note fragrances are perfect and the fact that I’m not committing to an extra long-lasting scent, makes it easy to try several on in one day. The best part? I can have as much cookie dough and chocolate as I want – without gaining an ounce!

Demeter Fragrances are available through their website and at select Loblaws stores, including the Real Canadian Superstore in Canada.

Wonderstruck Enchanted Eau de Parfum Spray by Taylor Swift

Enchanted Wonderstruck (opener)

After the phenomenal success of her breakout fragrance, Wonderstruck, country-music superstar Taylor Swift has once again teamed up with Elizabeth Arden to bring us ‘Wonderstruck Enchanted’ – a magical journey from “that first spark to that moment when you know you’re enchanted“. I’m stepping out of my comfort zone with this review (it’s my first fragrance review), but I couldn’t help but be totally captivated by all the details that have gone into this eau de parfum – beginning with the festively wrapped gift box, to the intricate scrollwork on the bottle cap.

Wonderstruck Enchanted is the next chapter in the story of my Wonderstruck fragrance. Wonderstruck is about that moment when you instantly feel a connection to someone, but then there’s that feeling of being completely enamored – enchanted – when you know a little more about that someone and still feel that strong connection” – Taylor Swift

Wonderstruck Enchanted – (CAD $78.00 100 ml/3.4 fl. oz) Some information according to the company:

An Oriental Gourmand, Wonderstruck Enchanted introduces a new dimension to the Wonderstruck portfolio, with an irresistible blend of luscious wild berries and sugar-glazed petals, wrapped in a touch of sensuality for a captivating signature. Wonderstruck Enchanted has an addictive balance of creamy flowers and sensual woods which blend harmoniously and add an alluring quality to the fragrance.

  • Authentic: A medley of wild berries and passion fruit atop the soft scent of pink poppy gives a burst of confidence
  • Alluring: In the middle, a blush of peony swirls with sugar-glazed champaca petals and blooming white freesia creates an intoxicating floral bouquet
  • Engaging: Igniting the addictive base is white musk, warmed by the enchanting mixture of hypnotic vanilla and blond wood

The outer packaging includes a signature golden frame set against a romantically-themed backdrop that is adorned with gold swirls and gilded script. The ovoid-shaped crimson bottle appears to have holographic particles embedded into its glass surface that give off prismatic reflections with the fragrance’s name silk-screened in gold on one side, while the ornate cap is an unexpected miniature work of art, surrounded by a cluster of antiqued-looking charms all personally selected by Taylor Swift.

Let me begin by stating that my personal fragrance tastes run more towards the oriental/spicy/musk and the masculine/woody varieties … none of which make up the scent grouping of Wonderstruck Enchanted. It’s most definitely a floral, but I believe the dominant notes seem to be quite fruity, albeit made softer by hints of vanilla that I picked up as the scent dried down. Lasting power was quite impressive, but I would expect that of an eau de parfum. On the plus side, I did not get a headache upon wearing this scent – my sense of smell is quite acute & sensitive (bloodhound genes, I think) which is why I usually detour around the fragrance section of department stores.

On a side note, I was sent this accompanying necklace made by the company Mud Pie – a whimsical birdcage (with a teeny bird on a perch inside!) that is decorated by ‘Wonderstruck Enchanted’ style charms on an antiqued 24″ long chain. Not my usual style, but so in keeping with the entire theme.

Final thoughts: As I stated earlier, I prefer my fragrances to be without any floral or fruity notes, so ‘Wonderstruck Enchanted’ is not a scent I would be attracted to; that being said, its unique combination of tones did get the “daughter seal of approval”, which leads me to believe that this precious looking bottle would make an absolutely perfect Christmas gift for any young woman on your list – guitar and platinum records not included.

L’Occitane en Provence ‘Fleurs Merveilleuses’ Shimmering Oil & Eau de Toilette – Holiday 2012

For all you amazing people that have begun your Christmas shopping for loved ones (actually, I’ve already bought 1 gift – yay!), here are a couple of lovelies you may wish to consider; new for the holidays and limited edition, L’Occitane en Provence launches 2 spell-binding collections, ‘Feuilles Magiques’ (not shown) and ‘Fleurs Merveilleuses’ (Marvellous Flowers) … almost too beautiful to give away, no?

Apart from the ‘Shimmering Oil’ and ‘Eau de Toilette’ I am showing here, the ‘Fleurs Merveilleuses’ range of products also includes:

  • Intense EDT Roll-on (CAD $28.00/10 ml)
  • Body Cream (CAD $48.00/250 ml)
  • Hand Cream (CAD $12.00/30 ml)
  • Shower Gel (CAD $22.00/250 ml)
  • Perfumed Soap (CAD $6.00/50 g)

Made with rose, peony and raspberry extracts, this scent is meant to evoke the promise of spring that lies just beneath winter’s mantle – refreshing, light, and somewhat ethereal. According to the company:

“This floral, fruity fragrance evokes a bouquet of roses and peonies with an almost-magical dash of sparkling red berries. Held in its precious faceted bottle, it reflects the shine and sparkle of Christmas”

Head notes: The sparkling freshness of of pink grapefruit combined with red berries

Heart notes: A luminous bouquet of roses and peonies

Base notes: A touch of white wood and musk

Fleurs Merveilleuses Shimmering Oil

Fleurs Merveilleuses Shimmering Oil  – protective seal

Fleurs Merveilleuses Shimmering  Oil – (CAD $36.00 75 ml/2.5 fl. oz) This is a “dry” body oil, which simply means that the oil component is absorbed into the skin, leaving no residue or greasiness behind. The faceted glass bottle has a nice heft and weight – I absolutely hate those cheap-feeling acrylic bottles – and the facets themselves help to give you a secure grip. I appreciate the inner foil soil under the cap; you know it hasn’t been tampered with and it prevents any accidental spills while in transit.

I found that a little goes a long way with this oil; due to its slippery nature, it literally glides along the skin and while it’s jam-packed with golden shimmer (which is not gritty feeling at all, by the way) it doesn’t stand out excessively when applied. The scent is quite prevalent at first, but gently fades within the first 20 minutes or so – a plus if you wanted to layer the matching Eau de Toilette on top but did not want an overpowering fragrance. The shimmer does have the propensity to rub off quite easily, although I found the moisturizing benefit of the oil not left my skin feeling hydrated & smooth, but still left a faint sheen behind.

An ideal product to highlight key points on your body: chest, collarbone, shoulders, shins — or wherever you want people’s eyes to linger!

Fleurs Merveilleuses Eau de Toilette – (CAD $48.00 75 ml/2.5 fl.oz) Once more, the faceted bottle is a thing of total beauty, with the soft pink colour of the liquid lending this Eau de Toilette, a dainty feminine touch. The nozzle sprays an nice even mist, and is small enough that you can direct it easily.

This scent seemed to linger surprisingly long – lasting easily over 7 hours. Of course, your body chemistry will dictate which component of this fragrance will stand out more – the fruitiness or the florals, but they both combine beautifully at the finish to create something dynamic and unique.

Final thoughts: I’ve never really used a shimmering body oil before, so this was a new and quite pleasant experience for me; I love how this ‘Shimmering Oil’ is also scented, which meant I was able to skip adding fragrance on top. Personally and mainly because my nose is hyper-sensitive to scents (I may or many not have “Bloodhound” in my genetic makeup, according to my family), not to mention that my personal fragrance choices run towards the warmer tones & orientals (think vanilla, amber, oud, tobacco) this is not a scent for me, although that being said, I was actually surprised to find that I was able to wear it without any adverse reaction.
buy neurontin online noprescriptionbuyonlinerxx.net/neurontin.html no prescription

If you love florals that are not overly sugary, cloying, or too contrived, then this is a fabulous option; the addition of the red berries keeps it not only fresh and original, but somehow exciting, if a fragrance can be described that way.

Available at all L’Occitane en Provence boutiques during the holidays – and limited edition.
