Elizabeth Arden · Prevage City Smart, Prevage Anti-Aging Foundation & Always Red Femme
Some brands seem to fly under the radar, yet in my opinion, they also happen to release some of the most amazing products out there. Elizabeth Arden is one such brand, and apart from some pretty awesome colour cosmetics (some of their past bronzers are to die for), they also happen to make one of my absolute favourite skincare ranges, Prevage.
Prevage – Clinical Lash + Brow Enhancing Serum
The only 2 cosmetic items I’d want with me if left stranded on a desert island, would be a never-ending tube of mascara – as beauty fiend, I’d want to look my best for the eventual rescue – and something to ensure my lashes always looked their best, since I would be wearing mascara so often. That’s where Prevage® Clinical Lash + Brow Enhancing Serum comes in to save the day, helping to covertly give your lashes (or brows) a boost … and no one else ever needs to know!

Prevage® Clinical Lash + Brow Enhancing Serum (CAD $115.00 4 ml/.13 fl.oz) – developed in partnership with the world-renowned Bascom-Palmer Eye Institute, this fragrance & colourant-free serum is dermatologist and ophthamologist tested, has clinically proven to support the enhanced appearance of lashes and brows after 2 weeks of use, as well as being safe for contact lens wearers. According to the company:
Key Ingredients:
Triple Lipopeptide Complex™ – supports lashes’ natural life cycle so lashes (and/or brows) appear lush, healthy and revitalized
Retinyl Palmitate (Pro-Vitamin A), Tocopherol Acetate (Vitamin E) and Ascorbyl Palmitate (Vitamin C) – this vitamin blend fortifies, protects and revitalizes lashes for a healthy appearance
Panthenol – conditions lashes and promotes lash flexibility & durability
Vitamins A, C, E, ProVitamin B5 and Botanical Extracts – help minimize breakage as lash conditioners fortify to help protect, revitalize and recover from environmental, chemical and physical damage.
My findings:
Approaching this trial with a healthy degree of skepticism, I admit that I wasn’t expecting to see any significant results. I’ve been genetically blessed with a reasonably healthy set of lashes – dark, long, naturally curling and fairly dense, but as I’ve gotten older, my skin isn’t the only place I’ve noticed changes. Adding to the equation, is a lifetime of wearing mascara – both regular & waterproof versions – with the requisite removal thereof, which can place quite a bit of stress on one’s lashes, plus the damaging effects of the adhesive applied for wearing false lashes (that really did quite a number on my poor fringe), plus environmental factors (pollution), and finally the natural aging process which totally impacts the growth and renewal process of lashes, and I was definitely ready for a product that claims to help turn things around.
Note: remember that this product needs to be applied to a freshly cleansed face, before you administer anything else ie: moisturizer and/or eye cream.

The fine tipped brush is very similar to what you’d find on a tube of liquid eye liner, and makes application a total breeze. The instructions state that you only need one brush stroke per lash line (one for the upper, one for the lower) and you apply starting from the inner corner out. A couple of times I managed to stick the brush into my eye, and while there was a mild stinging sensation, it didn’t last longer than a few seconds with no other effect thanks to my clumsiness (dork much).
After using this serum for 2 weeks, I accidentally realized that there was something to show for it; I say accidentally, because what I thought were leftover mascara smudges on my lower lash line – I believed my makeup remover hadn’t taken off all traces – was in fact my lashes looking way more dense than I’ve ever seen them. WOW!
At the four-week mark, I noticed that even my upper lashes seemed denser at the lash line, or rather, it looked like there were simply more of them, and while I can’t say for sure how much longer my lashes grew, I can verify that they did lengthen, as when I apply mascara, the tops of my lashes now reach the bottom hairs of my eyebrows! I should mention that I also applied the serum to my brows, concentrating more on the ends which have become quite sparse from years of tweezing, and I noticed enough new growth has come in so that any patches are now filled in.

All in all, I applied the serum nightly (religiously) for 4 weeks straight, and have now dropped to between 3-4 application per week for maintenance purposes. After 2 months, I still have product left in the tube – not bad for 4 ml!

Final thoughts: In recent years, more and more attention is now being paid to lashes, with prescription serums designed to tackle the most difficult cases, the rise in popularity of false lashes for a quick fix option, and lash extensions as a middle of the road alternative. Even mascaras are now designed to multi-task, providing what consumers look for most: volume, curl, and length – but none of these features will help you much if the foundation ie: your natural lashes, aren’t healthy to be begin with. I am super thrilled with the effects of Prevage® Clinical Lash + Brow Enhancing Serum, and I feel the results I achieved are totally worth the cost involved – way cheaper than any of the choices I listed at the start of this paragraph. This is a product I now do NOT want to be without.

Prevage Night anti-aging restorative cream (trial & review)
No matter your age, one thing that everyone’s skin needs is moisture – even more so as you get older. It’s a well documented fact that your skin does most of its cellular turnover and regeneration while you sleep, thus doubling the potential of your evening regimen. This past September, the reknown Prevage line of products introduced a new warrior in their lineup: ‘Prevage Night’, an intensive overnight repairing cream containing Idebenone, an incredibly powerful antioxidant, to help undo what nature (and former bad beauty habits) have done.
According to the company, this product is proven to help:
- reverse dryness with intensive moisture
- enhance skin’s own natural nighttime restorative process
- smooth, soften and re-texturize skin’s appearance
- restore skin’s natural resilience for a firmer look
- fight the visible effects of daytime environmental assaults: lines, wrinkles, discolorations & sun damage
- give skin a rested, restored, more radiant appearance
Apart from Idebenone, an incredibly powerful antioxidant on its own, ‘Prevage Night’ also include mega complex-A, a vitamin blend containing a Retinol Derivative to help smooth fine lines and wrinkles, Lemon Peel Extract to help soften age spots and skin discolorations, a vitamin E Derivative to aid in restoring and conditioning your skin, as well as Colorless Carotenoids to enhance the benefits of Idebenone and promote a firmer appearance.
‘Prevage Night’s’ advanced moisture complex of glycerin, cocoa butter and shea butter, will ensure that this intensive hydration system will work hard to help bind moisture to your skin – and the best part is that you don’t even need to be awake for results to happen – your skin’s restorative sleep cycle will take care of all the details!

To use the unique one-touch dispensing system, I use my thumb to push down on the raised center bubble, gently pushing out some of the product. The rich & creamy texture of this product means that you really do not need a lot to cover your entire face.
I found that 2 small pumps of the amount shown in the above photo, worked more than sufficiently for full coverage, with some left over to apply to the neck area as well. There is a pleasant citrusy scent, which while initially quite present, quickly fades once the product is fully absorbed – which could take about 3-4 minutes. I did experience some sensitivity when I applied this cream too close to my eye area, but after taking more care in my application technique, I had absolutely no issues. Here is what I did notice with regular and continued use of ‘Prevage Night’:
- my skin appeared brighter and more even-toned
- certain fine lines, particularly around my eyes, were definitely less visible
- my face felt significantly smoother to the touch
Final thoughts: After having used this product for well over 6 weeks now, I must say that I am thoroughly impressed; nothing makes me happier than when a product actually lives up to its claims. Knowing that you only need to apply this in the evening means you have no excuse for forgetting to do so, and once you see the brighter, more clear skin you wake up to every morning, trust me when I say that this is one step you won’t want to skip. ‘Prevage Night’ retails for CDN $160.00, which while rather steep, is nonetheless a smart investment for your skin – especially as one jar will most certainly last you easily two months. For anyone (everyone?!) who wishes to give their skin an effective nighttime boost, in Canada you can find the complete Prevage range of products at The Bay, Shopper’s Drugmart/Pharmaprix and London Drugs – and in my opinion, definitely worth every cent!
