Leave it to Karl Lagerfeld, the über-creative genius behind the legendary House of CHANEL, to showcase the spring/summer 2012 collection in the most original of venues: with the invitation (above photo) giving a sly hint as to what was to come, it still came as a delightful surprise to see that the setting would be none other than a mock-up of a jumbo jet!
Gives an entirely new meaning to the “mile-high club” !

‘Sky Line’ unveiled at the show
Looming on the horizon (hahaha! “horizon” – sky theme – too good to resist!) CHANEL beguiles us with yet another “it” shade, and ‘Sky Line’ – an icy yet delicate baby blue pearlized hue, with what appears to be some slight lilac undertones, looks to have all the makings of this summer’s hit – I, for one, can hardly wait!
While I wait for the release of CHANEL’s ‘Sky Line’, I decided to rummage through my lacquer stash and see if by some miracle I have something similar – something to temporarily satisfy the craving, so to speak! The only hue that looked to my eye to be somewhat close, is an old (very old – look at the square bottle!) MAC shade, ‘Alumina’ – although even from the promo photo, I could immediately tell they were quite different. ‘Alumina’ is a rather sheer shade, needing minimum three coats to reach the opacity of my swatches, as well as being a touch on the frosty side which means that careful application was needed to keep brush strokes to a visible minimum. Dry time was longer than I’m used to as well, and unfortunately I didn’t notice until after taking my pictures, that there were some slight bald patches – sorry!

Final thoughts: Suffice it to say that this is one lacquer I absolutely cannot wait for! Being a long time aficionado and collector of CHANEL polishes, I feel quite comfortable that the formula on this will not disappoint, but the colour — ah, now THAT’s what I look forward to the most! Just in time for those breezy, lazy, hot summer days … I’m definitely on board!
