CHANEL SS22 Ready-To-Wear · Backstage Beauty

CHANEL’s recent Spring-Summer 2021 Ready-To-Wear runway show was held in a temporary location near famous Paris landmark, Les Invalides, and paid homage to the 90s supermodel days as the models bounded down the catwalk while vamping it up for the photographer mosh pit at the end. In contrast to all that glam, makeup was soft, wearable and just so perfectly pretty, paired with minimal hair to keep everything balanced. Not surprising, nails sported CHANEL’s iconic Ballerina — aka: the shade of choice for the majority of the brand’s shows, and I’m ok with that as since this has long been one of my absolute faves to wear … I’m happy seeing more eclectic shades with any upcoming beauty collections!

What I appreciate is that most — if not all — of the beauty products used to create the looks, happen to be part of the permanent lineup and/or using shades that can easily be created using what you might already own. As can be seen in the photos below, Warm Memories, or this one palette of plum/pink hues works on a broad range of skin tones and can be applied simply by choosing one shade as a wash of colour all over the lid, or worn with a bit more complexity using 2 or more hues and liners. The Baume Essentiel in Transparent is one of those multi-tasking products that has become ubiquitous backstage; applied to cheeks it provides a natural-looking glow, used as a balm instead of lipstick it adds moisture and a subtle shine, or it can even be patted over eyeshadow for some editorial-looking shine. From the radiant look of the models’ skin, it appears as though a few drops of the Highlighting Fluid may have been added to the foundation, although this product blends into skin so seamlessly that it could very easily also be layered on top for a similar effect. I love how the blush shade in Ombre provides such a unique look on each model, looking more contour-esque on darker complexions and as a light flush on lighter skin tones, but absolutely natural-looking on everyone. Final verdict: this is one look I’m going to definitely try my hand at recreating. Right now, in fact.
