Charlotte Tilbury | Eyes To Mesmerise

CT Eyes to Mesmerize opener 2

Having successfully taken the beauty world by storm ever since the launch of her eponymous cosmetics range, Charlotte Tilbury has also now elevated cream eyeshadows to unbelievable heights. With their creamy and almost whipped texture, these six Eyes To Mesmerise Long Lasting Easy Colour (CAN $36.00) are exactly as their name implies: long lasting (especially when applied over primer) and easy (a finger is basically the only tool you need).

Made with Vitamin E to offer hydrating properties as well as protection from free radicals, each little glass pot also contains soft-focus illuminating pigments that appear to blur fine lines for an overall smoother look and finish. There is also a wonderful versatility found with these shades; by using your finger and picking up a light amount of product (alternatively you can use a brush for more precision, also useful for those with smaller eye lids), you can create a sheer wash of colour (a chiffon-like effect), while subsequent layering will add more impact and depth of colour. Using a dampened brush for application yields a metallic and almost mirror-like tone, making for a spectacularly impressive eye look. As stated before, the texture of each Eyes to Mesmerise is almost dream-like; there’s an initial cooling sensation felt on the lids (but which does fade), and the product literally glides along the skin, thereby avoiding any tugging or pulling in that delicate area. You do have about a minute before the colour sets for any blending and/or buffing; after that though, they’re there for the duration (especially when applied over primer), staying put until removed.

While absolutely gorgeous in their own right, another option is in applying these Eyes To Mesmerise shades under conventional powder eyeshadows to not only provide a multi-dimensional depth of colour, but for even longer-lasting results.

CT Norma Jean

Norma Jean | A champagne pink hue inspired by that iconic blonde, Marilyn Monroe. Worn alone and sheered out for a glimmer of pale colour along the lids, offers an instant brightening & wide-eyed effect. Bonus: can also be used to highlight the inner eye corner, brow bone, cupid’s bow and in a pinch, can even be buffed on upper cheeks as a highlighter.

EDIT: while my pot is clearly labelled ‘Norma Jean‘, I notice that the name on the website has been changed to ‘Jean‘ – although the colour remains the same.

CT Bette

Bette | Perfectly described as a “rich, burnished amber shade”, this hue was inspired by the reclusive beauty Bette Davis, and her powerful gaze. There’s such a rich depth of tone here that the actual colour can appear more molten gold at times (warmer leaning), then morphing into a deeper bronze (cooler leaning), making this wearable by a wide range of complexions and skin tones.

CT Marie Antoinette

Marie Antoinette | An oyster-gold hue filled with oxidized undercurrents for even more visual interest, this shade is inspired by the infamous (and ill-fated) Queen of France. At times more taupe-leaning – especially when layered – this is the perfect neutral shade to wear alone for an easy-peasy daytime look, or applied with a dampened brush for a totally original take on a dramatic eye (who knew that a neutral shade can be so in-your-face?!)

*EDIT: A quick search on the Charlotte Tilbury website doesn’t list this shade as sold individually, although it is still available in her Marie Antoinette Eyes To Mesmerise Kit

CT Mona Lisa

Mona Lisa | Described as a “wisteria chocolate bronze” on the Charlotte Tilbury site, is completely accurate; with hints of brown shot through with plum, this hue was inspired by the ‘soft-focussed stare of da Vinci’s leading lady’. For those not willing to commit to a full-on dark smokey eye, this is the perfect alternative and a much more wearable option at that. Simply gorgeous in all its sable glory ♥

CT Veruschka

Veruschka | Well known for her sultry-feline gaze, famous 60’s model Veruschka was the inspiration behind this ‘minky-mossy golden grey-green’ hue … and I couldn’t have described it better myself. This is THAT universal shade that will suit all eye colours and make them stand out, as well as making for that totally originally and diffused-looking smokey eye (you know; as though you’re viewed through a filter, if that makes any sense).

CT Cleopatra

Cleopatra | I don’t know about you, but THIS is exactly the colour I imagine when I hear Cleopatra’s name: a vivid, intense, peacock-y, beetle-wing-y teal that was inspired by Elizabeth Taylor’s portrayal of the Egyptian Queen (technically she was Greek and just happened to rule Egypt, but I digress…). I can honestly say that the swatch photo doesn’t come near to doing justice to this luscious beauty; there’s an iridescence that’s visible even when applied as a sheer wash of colour, but its true impact comes from layering it on. Cleopatra would have totally approved.

The biggest advantage of wearing any of these Eyes To Mesmerise cream eyeshadows, is that you don’t necessarily need a specific tool for application and minimal effort can yield results that look pretty impressive. Adding to that is a texture not seen before with this type of product, and excellent longevity (although having oily lids, I didn’t test these without primer). Part of the permanent range, these hues are a worthy addition to your beauty arsenal and the best part? Each little pot will go a long, long way.
