Dior · Forever Foundation & Forever Skin Glow Foundation 2022

For 2022, Dior has recently launched a revamped version of Forever and Forever Skin Glow Foundations — both versions in an impressive 42-shade range. An immediate hit since their original release in 2007, these new iterations are promising more skincare ingredients in the formulation, along with even more mindful packaging. I say that this is definitely a great way to start the year from this luxury brand.

I”m looking forward to repurposing this lovely embossed linen-covered PR box

What differentiates the 2022 version from its predecessors (previously reviewed here), is that the formula now contains an even higher concentration of floral extracts for increased skincare benefits — which also happens to coincide with Christian Dior’s passion for flowers — along with a higher concentration of recycled materials in the packaging, thus helping to reduce the carbon footprint.

Forever Foundation (CAN $65.00/each) | Housed in frosted glass bottles and dispensed via a pump, this may be the matte version of the two but the finish is more soft satiny, as opposed to flat and/or light-absorbing. With even longer staying power than the original, Forever is said to also resist transferring — something that’s pretty high on everyone’s priority list now that mask wearing is the norm. Able to withstand high humidity and heat (up to 33°C) without compromising any of its ‘second-skin’ feel, the new formulation contains an 86% Floral skincare base:

  • Iris Extract – to counter inflammation and help boost UV protection
  • Pansy Extract – to help stimulate water circulation and help maintain long term hydration levels
  • Nasturtium Extract – helps with radiance by stimulating the formation of a protein that transports oxygen
  • Rose Hip Extract – to help tighten the appearance of pores and help refine skin texture

  • 1.5N – light neutral beige
  • 2N – light neutral beige with a slight pink undertone
  • 2.5N – light neutral beige with a slight golden undertone

Forever Skin Glow Foundation (CAN $65.00/each) | Housed in clear glass bottles and dispensed via a pump, this version might have ‘glow’ in the name, but the finish is more along the luminous side, as opposed to being shiny. With the same lightweight feel upon the skin, the formula contains all of the above with the exception of the Rose Hip Extract that’s been replaced by Hibiscus Acid Extract – a fruit acid known to stimulate cellular renewal and thereby help smooth skin and provide radiance.

  • 1.5N – light neutral beige
  • 2N – light neutral beige with a slight pink undertone
  • 2.5N – light neutral beige with a slight golden undertone

After doing side-by side wear tests of both Forever and Forever Skin Glow, I can honestly say that I’m a little torn; never one to wear matte foundation (except for special events where I wanted longer shine-free staying power), I’m surprised by the gorgeous velvety finish of Forever — I wasn’t expecting that at all. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve definitely been reaching more for a foundation with a dewier finish, and Forever Skin Glow provides the radiance I look for, without making me look greasy by the day’s end. I didn’t notice any oxidation (where the colour darkens/changes) and neither did I experience any breaking up (ie: around the nostril area) which is another plus. If I had to choose just one, right now I’d say Forever has the edge because of its transfer-proof properties. As to texture, both feel lightweight, apply easily and spread smoothly along skin and are super comfortable throughout wear. Both foundations are said to be a buildable medium coverage, but you can still go in with a light hand for a sheerer finish, or layer up for opacity.

The comparison shot above of the same foundations (Forever on the left, Forever Skin Glow on the right) in the same shade clearly shows how different the colouration is between the original and the new. This might be due to natural oxidation aging factors, or the shades could have been changed significantly — I have no way of knowing for sure unless I had all colours to compare.

I also pulled out past Diorskin Foundations + a Dior Backstage Foundation that I’ve really loved and reached for often, in order to compare shades and textures, and while I do find similarities in the colours, they are all quite different from one another. On that note, I really wish that Diorskin Star was brought back, as that one was absolutely stellar.

With the pandemic also came so many changes to my makeup routine, and the first casualty was foundation, thanks to continuous mask-wearing. Then several months ago, I started shifting the way I approached beauty and while skin care has always been important to me, I began reintroducing foundation back into the game and it felt so good; this one act reminded me of more ‘normal’ times. Dior has always been a brand whose formulations I’ve trusted and the fact that they’ve loaded up both Forever & Forever Skin Glow Foundation with skincare, has definitely tipped the scales in favour of complexion products … makes it so much easier to wear a full face now!
