Dior #651 Panama Diorblush Cheek Creme (Pop Art Collection – Limited Edition)

Dior Panama opener

The Limited Edition Dior Summer Mix: Pop Art Collection, has now hit counters everywhere with the introduction of four vivid nail lacquer hues and four coordinating new crème blush shades. For some odd reason, little information about this collection came my way before I chanced upon the display; possibly because I was away on holiday and more concerned with hitting the beach – beauty blogger blasphemy! Once spotted, however, I knew that some of these beauties NEEDED to come home with me.

This season, it’s all about bright pops of colour for both nails and cheeks, but in a much more wearable format than anything previously seen. For this collection, Dior has transformed traditional crème blushes into something resembling a hybrid mousse/gel/crème format that sports a unique sponge-like texture you can feel, and which melds seamlessly into the skin once applied – leaving the most beautifully glowing natural flush behind. Forget the greasy crème blushes of the past; this new incarnation has all the longevity found in a cheek stain – minus any annoyingly quick-drying nature – and blends like a dream, with absolutely no greasy feel left behind.

There 4 shades released are:

  • #851 Capri – a pale, blue-toned cotton candy pink shade
  • #971 Paréo – a vivid fuchsia pink
  • #871 Bikini – a warm-leaning hot pink with salmon undertones
  • #651 Panama – an intense coral

I didn’t intend to purchase the blush shade that matches the nail polish (see my review on Dior #448 Sunnies here), but after swatching all four at the counter, I finally settled on #651 Panama as the shade that best suited and complimented my skin tone. Do NOT be fooled by the über-vibrant orange shade you see in the pot; the somewhat scarily vivid hue is actually an incredibly wearer-friendly colour that melts seamlessly into the skin, with the ability to be worn either as a soft whisper along the cheeks, or layered for more impact.

Dior Panama macro

#651 Panama (CAD $30.00 7 g/0.24 oz) – an intense coral hue with deep orange/pink undertones. The colour can be adjusted depending on your application method, although I prefer using either a flat paddle-type foundation brush or a more densely-headed foundation brush, as I personally find it more hygienic rather than using my fingers. Another benefit to using a brush, is that you can feather the colour out in a more realistic manner while building it up is much more effective with this method, as opposed to using one’s fingers that could wind up making the colour appear a touch blotchy. Lasting power was not as long as a stain or other more pigmented powder blushes, although I didn’t notice any significant fading before the 5-6 hour mark. There is the most subtle shimmer seen in the pot that seems to disappear upon application, and yet enough remains that it imparts the most stunning and natural glow without ever appearing fake or overdone. For a look at how one of the lighter shades appears, take a look at Tracy’s fabulous post on #851 Capri here.

Last word: If you have a fair to medium skin tone like I do, then this is the Holy Grail of coral blushes for you. This colour can also work for paler types as well, provided it is applied with a light hand and perhaps used in conjunction with a bronzer as a compliment, while darker skin tones can sport a more deeper layered application of this shade, with ease. The texture is innovative and provides the most natural looking flush of colour to the skin, with absolutely no greasy after-feel or effects, and while the colour range may be small, I find it covers a broad spectrum of tones just the same – probably because you can adjust the intensity of each blush hue. As my skin runs oily in the T-zone area, I’ve always preferred using powdered blushes – creamier versions tended to make me break out or else the colour would basically just slide around my cheeks; these new Dior blushes have turned me into a creme blush convert … so much so, that I’m already eyeing one other shade!

Has anyone else played with these blushes? Let me know your thoughts! I picked mine up at The Bay (Canada).
