I recently read that Dior was finally bringing nail polish back to its regular cosmetics lineup and to that end, they announced that they will be releasing 20 new shades. The only one I managed to find at my local retailer was the only one I wanted: Bronze Libertine (such a romantically poetic name!).
This shade is very hard to capture, both in pictures and with words; it has strangely chameleon-like properties, being able to seem a pale bronze metallic one minute, deep mossy brown the next. It tends more towards an antiqued bronze look, with very fine green, pink and multi-tonal gold shimmer that are reflected when light hits it directly (click to enlarge the pictures to fully appreciate the shimmer). The consistency, as with all Dior polishes, was excellent being neither too thin nor too thick and it left no visible brush strokes whatsoever. The only issue I had was that Dior has changed their brushes from a thin tapered brush to a much wider, flatter brush which comes to a rounded point (similar to the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure line of brushes) and while some may like a wider brush, I usually prefer a thin brush for the control if affords. I guess this brush just takes a little getting used to, but for now I found it a touch difficult to wield.
Bronze Libertine seemed very familiar to me; I thought bore a striking resemblance to another shade Dior released a couple of seasons back named Gold Nugget, but when I placed them side by side, Gold Nugget had obvious bright gold shimmer with a more yellow tone to it compared to Bronze Libertine’s slight greenish cast due to the multi-tonal shimmer in it’s depths (by clicking to enlarge the picture you can get a better idea of the difference). I do love the subdued richness of this shade and it seems a perfect accompaniment to the upcoming holiday season!
