Givenchy · Rouge Révélateur, Rouge Interdit & Lip Liners

Givenchy is one of those luxury beauty brands that somehow manages to fly under most peoples’ radar, but beauty lovers take note: I dare you to try any of their products, and not be impressed. Just launched for Spring 2017, the marbled Rouge Révélateur lipstick is one such product and pretty much guaranteed to blow you away.

Also added to the lineup are 10 new lip liners in colours that all perfectly match the range of Rouge Interdit lipsticks, along with one Universel Transparent shade. These liners are infused with Vitamins A & E, emollient Carnauba and Candelilla waxes, as well as nourishing oils — all of which provide them with an ultra smooth gliding application along the lips, hydration and long-lasting colour, and bleed-proof qualities. Said to be waterproof as well, although to be fair I haven’t put that claim to the test (but they do appear to be quite water-resistant). Note: that each liner comes with a sharpener.

11 Universel Transparent (CAN $35.00) | As just barely seen in the above swatch, this shade is truly transparent and can be applied before lipstick — in particular high-maintenance shades like reds or deep berries/darks, in order to act as a barrier to prevent feathering/bleeding into lip lines. It can also be applied all over the lips as an anchor for any other shade you layer on top, and lastly it works to help fill in lip lines.

06 Carmin Escarpin (CAN $35.00) | A true red hue (with cherry/blue undertones in the base) that is the perfect match for 06 Rouge Interdit lipstick. Smooth application & richly pigmented as well.

Can we take a moment and admire the packaging details of these lipsticks? The black lacquered outer case bears a black grosgrain ribbon along the sides with the Givenchy name in raised silver lettering, while the actual lipstick is pulled out via a matching little ribbon loop and is embossed with the Givenchy logo on the bullet. Absolutely stunning.

25 Rouge Révélateur, limited edition (CAN $40.00) | This gorgeous marbled shade is made up of two parts: 50% N°13 Rouge Interdit for an intense red hue and 50% N°16 Noir Révélateur for depth and customizable colour. Formulated with Black Rose Oil, Noir Révélateur is unique in that it also contains Eosin which reacts to the pH of the lips and basically self-adjusts in tone. Combining it with the strong saturation of the red turns this into not only a visual work of art (I mean, just LOOK at it), but will give a truly customized look on everyone. On me, it works out to a deep rose hue that has a luminous sheen, fading to a rich stain once the majority of colour has worn off. To note: these lipsticks are scented; a yummy rose-candy fragrance that dissipates quickly after application.

13 Rouge Interdit (CAN $40.00) | Available in 20 shades that cover the gamut between nude, coral, pink, red and berry tones, these lipsticks offer amazing pigmentation (with basically one swipe) in a medium coverage finish, and provide a long-lasting moisturized feel to lips thanks to a formula that contains Black Rose Oil and other extra fine oils. Rouge Interdit is a true red shade that strikes an excellent balance between being neither too warm nor cool leaning, while the texture is buttery yet featherweight and gives lips an overall luminous look — never coming off as flat nor overly glossy.

How many times can red be reinvented, am I right? And yet, somehow Givenchy has done exactly that. Rouge Révélateur is not only original in appearance, but becomes truly one-of-a-kind on every single wearer. And while my collection of red lipsticks is ridiculously vast, especially for someone who usually reaches for nudes, I was still impressed with Rouge Interdit just the same: a universally flattering red in an exceptionally comfortable formula and a texture that strangely enough provides coverage without any heavy opacity. Sorcery, I tell you. As to the Lip Liners, if you own even one red lippie, you should also have a corresponding liner — especially useful when going for that ultra-sharp, ultra-precise look. Universel Transparent is also a product that should be in everyone’s makeup bag; it’s like a magic liner and for the record, I’m pretty much obsessed with it now.

EDIT: At last check, Rouge Révélateur was showing as sold out on Sephora’s website, but you can register your email to be notified of a restock.
